Guy has a pure wolf - illegal in WA and isn't sitting in a jail. I'm beyond stunned that these animals weren't euthanized immediately. Both the owner and the mother are apparently morons of the highest order. If he has a permit, that should also be investigated. There are so many things wrong here that it's impossible to keep up.

It's probably easier for the state to ship it off to Wolf Haven on their dime then to shoot a wolf and then have to deal with the public.

I have a huge problem with something. The guy says the mother of the pups isn't full wolf, but she's so much wolf that no dog shows up in her DNA. What, is that a thing? If I shoot a wolf in the woods, am I able to successfully claim the same thing? Either he's in violation of the law prohibiting the keeping of purebred wolves or the "dog" shouldn't have been transferred and should've been euthanized. The WDFW had to have been involved. Either it's a wolf or it's a dog. Which is it? There's something very fishy at play here. I'd like to know which WDFW official made the call to have the animal relocated and why. I'd like to know if the guy was cited for having a purebred wolf and if not, why.

Ok, I think wolves are land sharks. My first and second times missing any thing were wolves up in Alaska. I buy Montana wolf tags.

That being said do you really want to blame the caged wolf or for that matter a caged dog?  I would look at it differently if the animals were out running free in the neighborhood. It truly is a shame the little guy lost his arm/hand I really feel for him.

If your dog was in a cage and you told people to stay away from it and they got bit do you think the dog should be killed? This was a horrible accident. I read the story when it came out in the paper instead of "Why the animal is still alive" I was thinking "Why was the child was in a position to get bit." I know it seem hard, but that is the way I look at it. Unfortunately there is a mom that is going to have regrets forever over this horrible accident.

I spoke with a Sgt. in WDFW LE last night. He told me that they've had little to do with this case. Thurston Co. Animal Services reported it to them but they (Thurston) were the ones who were responsible for transporting the animal out of state, presumably to OR, and did the entire investigation. I asked him about their report that the wolf was purebred and if it actually is, why this guy had it and from where did he get it. He's going to check with Thurston Co. and look into it further and get back to me. He was very nice and forthcoming. This may turn out to be pretty interesting.

It is messed up. I asked him "what if this guy got the purebred wolf by robbing a den? Wouldn't you guys be all over this? Rancher's are losing their butts because they can't take action on their own to protect their assets but some idiot breeder shows up with a purebred wolf and nobody raises an eyebrow?" He agreed.
