Best Time of year to buy new truck
« on: June 21, 2017, 01:19:09 PM »
Is there really a best time of the year to buy a new truck. I will be in the market come the end of August. But should I wait for the end of year deals? Are they really deals.?

I would wait for leftovers on the lot.  Once the new models come out, they will deal a little on last year models.

The best way to get a deal in my experience is to shop around online and get dealerships competing against one another.  I've forwarded emails from one dealer to the next in search of better deals.  Follow the downward spiral in price until it levels out.

Lastly, walk in with your own financing.

Buy it when you can walk up with cash in hand and do some wheeling and dealing!!

That, or just get them to wheel and deal thinking they'll make money off your interest rate and payments.  Then go home and pay the loan in full.  Make sure there is no pre-payment penalty (there rarely is anymore).

I loved seeing my title show up in the mail a couple months after buying the truck.

Two years ago when I bought mine there were some extra incentives that started around the first of July that were worth waiting for.

End of the month.  End of august is good as new models are coming in if you can find a current year model. Call Dave Smith motors first so you know what a good price looks like.

End of August is a good time. The next year models are already on the lot, and they're looking to move the current year models"17".

I just bought a 2017 2500 ram in February and I called dave smith on dodges and chevys and their prices were no better than what I was finding in WA. Same thing when i bought my last truck in 2003.

I found Dave Smith prices weren't that good.  Dennis Dillon in Boise is another option if they have the model you are looking for.  I also bought a 2017 Ram 2500.  If you are looking for a Ram shoot me a PM and I will tell you were I got the best deal.

Have all the option codes you want, on the last Saturday of the month call and ask for the sales manager at each dealership and ask for his best price on that truck.  If they are close to meeting a sales level for that month, they will deal to get that sale.  Be prepared to drive there that day and do the deal.  My last Dodge in 2009 was a deal done at 6pm last Saturday of the month, MSRP was $38k got it for $26k and was $1750 less than Dave Smith's bottom line.  The first price he offered me was $29.1k, he asked how that sounded and I said it sounded like he was going to make me drive to Kellogg.  He stated "I don't lose sales to those guys" and offered $26k if I'd come down and do that deal that day.  My target was $28.35k, as it was worth up to $600 to me to not drive to Dave Smith.  That's exceptional, but we have got at least 15% off MSRP on the last three new vehicles with this approach.  If you don't get a good deal, wait another month and try again.  If it's cold and raining that day, your chances are better than if the weather is good.  Go with their in house financing to get the best price, then refi or pay off after.

My dad teaches a college level English composition course which involves a research paper.  Students can research any topic, but if they don't have any idea, he keeps a notebook of questions he'd like answered, and they can choose from that.  He has had several students over the years research this subject, and this is what has worked well.  It's ok to go to the dealership to test drive, but when you are ready to buy don't go to the dealership until you have a firm deal in hand.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Like others have said, if you don't mind having last years model then wait for the new ones to come out then make a deal. I bought a 2015 Tacoma brand new at the point in time when the 2016 (newer body style and engine) were just about to hit the lots. When I walked in, I noticed brochures for the new body style and realized the time was ripe to make a deal. They were excellent. It's the TRD with every 4*4 option available. They came down almost 5 grand on the price and gave me 2 grand more than I deserved on my trade.

Does anyone know about pricing at Northwest Motor Sports? My boss drove over there and got a pretty good deal last year, but has had issues with it since. I am in Spokane, so that is the only time I have heard of anyone buying one there.

they are a bit on the pricey end but do some negotiation with them.

After new models have come out and end of month is the best time.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
