Wyoming Leftover Licenses
« on: July 01, 2017, 07:50:42 AM »
Anybody else apply for a Leftover Wyoming License?  I'm hoping for a "Reduced Price Cow Only" tag elk for area 92 or 94.  It seems like a good way to learn a new area and hopefully come home with some good meat.

I put in for a cow tag as well.  Hoping to fill my Colorado tags, then run up to Wyoming.  Hopefully the leftover results are better for me than the original draw.

Yes, I'm in for a type 6 elk tag, the same one I didn't draw in January. If I draw I'll be hunting in August.

I am assuming that your preference points remain intact if you draw a leftover tag,  correct? I didn't put in because I couldn't find where they address this and I would hate to lose my points for a leftover tag.

Yes, preference points do not come into play at all in the left over drawing. Bobcat, is it the exact same tag you applied for again?  If so, how would it be available as a left over if you were not able to get it in the original drawing? Just wondering. I hope you are successful this time around.

There is a non resident quota in the first drawing. Residents did not purchase all the licenses available to them, creating leftovers.

I like that non-res and residents can put in as a group in the leftover draw.  Sucks you can't in the first one.

Thanks for answering my question Bob33. Just getting to know Wyoming's system myself.  I do plan on buying a preference point soon and hopefully drawing a general elk tag next year.

Kinda a related question...

I understand wyoming has a random draw. Not sure if it's for all hunt categories or not but 25% of the tags are set aside for a random drawing.

Has that drawing already taken place? And if you applied for a special draw and we're not selected are you automatically entered in the random draw?

The random draw is part of Wyoming's special draw system.  It happens immediately before but in conjunction with the preference point drawing.  When you apply for a special permit in Wyoming you are entered in both parts of the draw.

Not selected in Wyoming means you didn't draw in either part of the draw

Can you enter the draw if you weren't in the first draw?

Yes
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Next week I'll buy leftover antelope licenses. The areas I'm interested in have lots.

My Brother and I were successful in getting a couple of Elk Unit 94 reduced price cow tags.  It looks like the drawing odds for us were about 40% so feeling fortunate.  Looking forward to spending time in really nice country and hopefully coming home with some meat.
