1911 upgrade parts
« on: July 08, 2017, 06:08:22 PM »
thinking about a new: main spring housing, slide lock, hammer, sear and trigger bar from Wilson "bullet proof " parts, about $200.00 total. To get my old 1911 upgraded, already have match barrel and fitted slide.
Plan to have the parts pro installed.

What do you all think?

Wilson makes good parts, but for the fire control (hammer, sear and disconnector) I've had the best luck with Extreme Engineering.  For a trigger SVI with interchangeable inserts is hard to beat.  If you have a few basic tools you can do all the work yourself if isn't difficult at all.  You'll also need to change the safety.  More often than not it will need to be fit to the sear.  That's the hardest part, but if you go very slow and file only a little at a time it doesn't take long.

What are you starting with?
Are you sure you need replacement?

thanks Fishsticks I'll look at those parts. Need? heck no don't need any of it, or the last two sigs I bought or three 1911's. BUT I am intrigued, I have time and am not poor so why not?
I have this steel frame steel slide 45 that is really cool, very close to perfect, I think it needs these parts and attention. Am looking at Colts too, interesting options.

I like the way you think!!!

I usually have to remind my wife, on, before, after, during, and any time in between a new firearm purchase, that "need" ain't got nothing to do with it.  Typically, she just rolls her eyes at me walks off.  :chuckle:

Wilson makes top notch stuff. I have a Kimber that runs pretty good. but I would love to find an old colt and send it off to Wilson and let them do their magic. Are they expensive? god yes! but sometimes you have to pay for quality.

Mongo, for Wilson to install and fit the parts I mentioned, they charge well over $600.00.

I replace the recoil springs with lighter ones.  Polish the sear hammer and ramps when you reassemble this bad boy.  Other than that, I like your list.
