Canik
« on: July 09, 2017, 10:21:10 PM »
Looking hard at a sidearm for hunting (/reason to get a full size pistol, my current and only handgun is an M&p shield in 9mm)
I've come across the canik tp9sa and TP9sf (sf is the version without the "decocker" feature.

Any of you guys every had one or shot one what was your thoughts?

All I can find is very reliable and very good trigger for ~350$

I'm all ears for other sidearms but I'm looking to spend around 400$ after tax.

The only real downside is made in turkey. Other than that seems like great option

friend of mine has one (tp9sa), he let me run a couple of boxes through it at the range a while back. i found it enjoyable to shoot, it shot well. after only a mag or two i was putting 10 yard shots in a clover leaf group or one big ragged hole. trigger was crisp. it grouped well on the 25 yard targets ( i am not the greatest pistol shooter). only complaint i had was the "off switch" but i hear they did away with that in the new one.

all in all for the money i dont think you could really go wrong with the new model

hope this helps

BiggerHammer had one as well, hopefully he will respond here.

turkish crap.

But I mentioned that as a downside, made in turkey not USA.
But personally I can't judge it solely on that.
Do you have some evidence about how it's crap? Proof? Bad experience?

Everything I've read are people with thousands of rounds through with zero malfunctions.
And most all agree it's one of the best stock triggers on the market.

Please back up your statement

For about 350 you can easily find great handguns, there are bunch of rebates on Beretta(Beretta PX4 Storm), SW, and so forth. A couple weeks ago I saw a CZ P07 with a threaded barrel and night sights for 420, which is an outstanding deal. If you want a good reliable full size handgun in that price range, I'd look at Grand Power K100. That one I can say has the best stock trigger on the market, and the trigger reset is outstanding since these are made for competitions. Nowadays, it's not hard to find really good guns in that price range, so I wouldn't just focus on the canik. You can find something much better than that.

I've got a tp9sfx, as does my dad. I will own a few more canik models soon.  Yeah it's Turkish, cnc's don't know what country their in. Fit and finish is awesome, best trigger I've felt in a factory gun, better then my powder River precision trigger in my xd, fit and finish is better then my xd, and it absoulty wipes the floor accuracy wise against all my pistols short of my wife's Buckmark with target barrel, and my taurus 44 mag when it's running right.

Lots of hearsay, and ignorance when it comes to guns that aren't main stream now a days, go fondle one, feel the trigger, look at the fit and finish, and don't be afraid to own one.

TP9v2 shooter here. On the v2 and the new DA the decocker puts the gun in double action so there is no "kill switch" per say. I really like shooting the gun. Comes with 2 18 round magazines, case, and a holster that is at least serviceable for range use. You can also readily get 20 round magazines for them as well. For less than $400 out the door I don't know if you can do better.
