Black gold or spot Hogg?
« on: November 11, 2017, 07:47:09 PM »
I’ve been wanting to get a single pin sight and with me just getting a new bow bows the time. I’ve narrowed it down to either the spot Hogg Fast Eddie xl or the black gold ascent verdict. What do you guys like and why? I’ve always shot spot Hogg’s in the past and was going to go that route again but when I was at sprtcontoday talking to the archery guys they might have talked me into trying the black golds. So what is your opinion? Hoggs or black golds?

That's like picking between Babe Ruth or Hank Aaron, both are awesome. I currently run the Black Gold you asked about but when I switch it will be to the Spot Hogg. I like the Spot Hogg design on the XL

I don’t think you could go wrong with either. Been running a Hogg Father for 2 years and really like it but MBG has been doing some great things and had one on my bow for 10 years. No complaints.
People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.

there is no more heavy duty/protected pin on the market than the ones in the spot hogg double pin scope. also going to a single or double vertical post really makes shooting easy as there is much less clutter, allowing you to see the whole animal and pick that little spot for your pin.

I leave my sight set up for 30 yards all the time. The top pin will shoot barely high at 20, 30 is perfect, and the second pin hits dead on at 48 yards. If time allows its just an easy click adjustment to get exact yardage.

I picked up an MBG Ascent Verdict two weeks ago. After opening the package, I immediately noticed that the dial knob was really stiff to turn and had uneven pressure between the ends of the bar and the middle (middle being very stiff). And yes, the unlock knob was fully out to allow for turning..

I emailed MBG and they requested that I send it to them to repair; so I did. I just got it back yesterday. While it's better, it is still not as smooth as I'd think a $200 sight should be. The return email I received said that it was as loose / smooth as they could make it without having other issues. Honestly, it's still is not turning easily and the varying pressure has me worried about quality.

So I'm returning it to Sportco this week. I am pretty bummed and I'll think I'll look at HHA next. I was eyeballing a Fast Eddie, but the exposed gears had me worried about stuff getting in there and fouling it up.

For what it is worth MBG's customer service was great. Very quick email responses and very friendly. Just disappointing that their product wasn't what I was hoping for.

I cannot compare the two but I can say I went Black Gold Ascent single pin last year and absolutely absolutely love it.

Having had both I can say they are both built very good. With that being said I only have Spot Hogg's on my bows now and In my opinion I think Spot Hogg's are the best bow sights made.
