Heard my 1st bulge of the season
« on: August 21, 2017, 09:09:21 AM »
Yesterday morning I pissed some bull off by blowing a predator call.  He really wanted to find that dying rabbit and finish him off.  I guess they are starting to get a bit wound up.

We went up scouting for my dad's bull tag this weekend... They were screaming and tearing trees up! It was fun to hear and watch

I sat down on a stump at the top of draw and chirped/mewed about 6 times over the course of 35 minutes.  I got a single distant bugle.  It was nice to hear something back!

I sure hope I hear some this weekend. Going to check cams and do some scouting. What time of day did you hear them? Early morning? Did you solicit the bugle or did they just do it.

This was about 6:00 – 6:30am.  He clearly responded to the rabbit squeal.  Woods were quiet before and after.   Weird.

I wasn’t looking for elk because I don’t have the right piece of paper in my pocket.

I was sitting down and chirping around 11 am.  I did not bugle back, as I had left my tube back in truck.  After just using a simple cow call; subsquently it became the driver for the Bull to sound off. He fired off a one and done.  I really was not expecting to hear anything.  When I heard it, I noticed it was not a full power bugle, but more of an "hello..I'm here..." I did not want to push my luck and test the boundaries this early. I am planning on heading back in 2-3 weeks to check the nearby cams and bring my buddy along to help check out the bottom.  It sounds like Statewide they are starting to make noise!
