Thanks man I appriciate that...yah i think off the bat ill probabably go with a straight black look and maybe spray some rubber sound deadener spray on the grip areas for feel and look...but the cool part of the stock will be the check piece. im thinking burl but im not sure how easily ill be able to get some....I figured a 2x4x6inch piece and then go from there to piece it in. Oh and i floated the barrel the other day. Basically for the savage 110 it was very simple. The stocks forend is curved at the tipand so all you have to do is take something that is just a bit larger than the diameter of the opening at the end of the barrel and sandpaper and clean it out....I used a 14 deep socket wrapped it with 220 sandpaper and went to town till it was nice and smooth.Installed the rest of the gun..slipped a few dollar bills underneath it and no rubbing.....(two thumbs up). so for now im happy....I just cant wait till i get the balls to cut the check comb off. but ill wait till i actually have the wood. BUT IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS OF HOW TO GET A BETTER PAINT JOB OFF THE BAT THAT COULD HELP. Maybe i should just spray the whole rifle rubberized?
We did that with the rubber spray on *censored* for coating tools. IT comes out looking and feeling good, but if a bit of it starts to peel off it will continue to peel.
Alright i keep going back and forth on this but i decided that im just going to spray paint the stock as it is.....Floated. fits tightly....Might see about making some pillars for it and pillar mounting it....But i think i am going to wait and save up for that bell&carlson stock......was flipping through a old cabelas mag today and saw it again and well thats what i want to do.....SO finish what i got and then wait....Thanks for the ideas and info........every bit is helpful!
Jay I have done stocks with texture paint and it works very well. Spray it with a low gloss over it and it is very nice.
