I would use buckshot for yotes.

I use BB's and they work good, out to about 40 yards. #4 buckshot is another good choice, and if you don't mind spending a little more money, the "Dead Coyote" loads with size "T" shot are supposed to work good at extended ranges.

Slugs work great too,  i have a picture under my profile pics of  dog I dumped with a slug out of my hastings rifled barrel.  We can hold 4'' groups at 150 yards with the Federal rounds,  I did see Remington has a new slug out and I will for sure give them a try!

I would think that would take out a yote at 60+ yards? Just aim a little high at long range.

00 Buck would throw a pretty sparse pattern for shooting coyotes. The only way to really know the effective range is to take them out and pattern them on a large sheet of paper. I'd be betting that your 00 Buck loads will have too many holes in the pattern to be reliable past 40 yards. Sure a single pellet to the head, or through the lungs might put one down out to 100 yards, but you'll be wounding more that will end up suffering a slow and painful death, than you'll be killing. You'll get more range out of the others I already mentioned than you will with 00 Buck.

Well yeah, but it depends. I think #5's would be good on a coyote to about 30 yards, maybe 35. But there are definitely better choices.

Savage 24F, no problem shooting slugs with a IC choke tube in.Screw in chokes are not a problem,just size 'em to your load.
