New to elk hunting questions on tags
« on: July 24, 2017, 01:39:49 PM »
So I started hunting last year and I harvested a deer so this year I want to try elk out. For deer season I just went to sportsmanswarehouse and bought a deer tag and went on public land to hunt. My question is, is elk hunting the same? Do I just buy the elk license and get a tag and go find some public land? Or is there a drawing for certain units like in Montana and other states. I'm looking at hunting unit 560 because I'm close by. My other family members also hunt elk so I'm going to talk to them about hunting.

You got it.  Buy a westside general tag and follow the rules for that unit and choice of hunting method.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

yup, only difference for elk is you have to choose east or west side tag for whatever weapon youd like.
then pick a unit, check the regs, and get after it

Yep, pretty much the same as Montana, get a tag and check the regs for the unit you want to hunt in.  Only difference is there aren't guys swearing at out of state plates over here.
