How to "safely" install/tighten/remove broad heads.....
« on: July 29, 2017, 08:51:27 PM »
Folks, broad heads are very sharp out of the package. Every single year since I can remember, I hear about or see where folks have hacked their fingers putting their broad heads on/off. Yes, the broad head wrenches are part of the equation for safe install/tighten but if you take it a step further and use the vise method, you won't have a need to count how many fingers are left on your hand. Simply put your broad head wrench in a vise, put the tip on your arrow, put it down in said broad head wrench... and tighten it down (or take it off as required) safely. I've used this method for many, many years due to having hacked my finger to the bone just screwing around with a less than effective method ;).

I know I should and have a wrench but every time I just work slow and careful. I know it's going to bite me one of these times.

BWAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHHAAHHAHA this brings up some really painful memories. I have some good scars/"teaching moments'' that keep me from doing this again.

Glad your not all bled out on the floor. Bet you don't do that again.

Good idea! Broad heads probably scare me more than any other thing so I always work super slow and with the wrench but any little bit more helps. Good tip

When I started archery hunting a family friend gave me his box of random broad heads. In it were a couple of wrenches out of made out of stamped tin (Rocky Mountain was the maker I believe) that fit on keychain. That's all I've ever used for messing with my broad heads.

My G5 DeadMeat expandables came with a broadhead wrench. Looks like it would fit all 2, 3, and 4 blade heads. Great little freebie!

So, you're saying I shouldn't use my teeth for installing and removing broadheads anymore?

Are they "notched" for both three and four blades?  :chuckle:

3 blade or 4 blade, that problem theems to retholve itself.

Umm, post of the day.  Thanks, I needed that.  On to watch the Hawk's pre-season game.  Looks like the main cats will play a quarter or two.
