Pop up blinds

Do any of you use pop up blinds? I was thinking of getting one so my boys could go with me during early archery this year. Do any of them have any kind of scent control our do you have to watch the wind while you use them? Any particular features to look for? Thanks for the help.

I use mine for turkey hunting also deer and elk.   I have had no problems with deer.   I habe had deer walk within 10 feet of it and not know it us there.  The thing is.   If your hunting private land set it up weeks before season so tje animals get accustom to it.   Public land is hard unless you can brush it in really well so it blends in with the back ground.  Spray it down with scent control of you want.   Just make sure if the wind is coming from the back close your windows.   Should control your scent.   Good lucl

I have one, I have a chair blind and I have a hub blind.  Get a big hub blind if more than one person. 

For one person using a gun I really like the chair blind, but way too small for bow or crossbow.  The pop up. I think is called a doghouse, is neither fish nor fowl, I loan it a lot and people have success in it.  It can be tricky shooting a bow out of it.

We have used them for years, during Muzzy Elk.
Killed several elk out of them.

I set them up day or two before. And brush them in. Each blind bag has a bottle of scent away in the bag. Before I get in I spray the blind down.

Two gallon zip. Locks to pee in.
No food left in the blind. But I stock with water or pop.

I try to tuck them in a dark shaded corner. Have the sun behind the blind.  They get hot so pick cool spots.

I would not buy a expensive one. 119.00 dollar area.

What I do like about this one is that no zipper or valcro on the on the windows.  So silent if you need to take one down while out hunting.

Is a fabulous blind chair.  Independently infinitely adjustable legs, big enough to set a binocular and/or range finder down on and not have it tumble off when you are sitting on it.  But it weighs a ton.  I can shot my bow off it as well or better than standing.

I don't stand either and shoot seated.  I practice that way too.

I have one that works great it is big enough for me and my son to hunt out of together and we have had deer very close. They seem to have decent scent control but I always put mine downwind of where I think the deer will come. I have never used it for elk just deer and it works great. I want to get a new one with larger shooting windows my son and I have both hit the bottom edge of the blind with arrows shooting at  deer. It does not work out very well. So that is one thing I would look for in a new blind more room to shoot through

I can use the doghouse one for archery, but everything has to be just right.  I never use it if I have room for the hub blind and don't have to pack it a half mile.  If I don't have room or have to pack it in I will grudgingly use the doghouse.  For firearms I just grab whatever is convenient and a lot of times that is the chair blind.

One thing with ground blinds that i have learned. If you are setting them up before the season in bear country they might not be still standing next time you check on them. I have lost 2 this year so i ended up putting up treestands

Cabela's has the Ameristep Battlefield in online Bargain Cave for $79, that is a decent blind, and if it gets stolen it isn't a big deal.  I have been using one and bought another one this week.

I tried a doghouse three years ago. Went back to a homemade ground blind. The are too hot if the sun is on them. They deaden the sounds. ALSO: a bear took care of it this spring and shredded two sides.

We brushed the blind in really well and only set it up a day early. Also have two ameristep Doghouse blinds set up but too tight of space for my wife to easily draw. Bullpen allows you to sit towards back of blind out of the sunlight and lots of room to draw bow. Look for slider windows and stay away from loud Velcro and Zippers. Good Luck!

Yes, you want to sit toward the back.  I'm going to paint my bow flat black.  Wearing black like a BDU coat and boonie hat with black face paint really helps.

Cannot speak highly enough of the DoubleBull Blind. We have one of the original hub styles and it has been abused and used hard. The only holes in it are in the window netting from killing bull elks with arrows. Have also killed alot of big Boss Tom turkeys out of it as well.

I'm 6'5". 32" draw length and I hunt out of a blind for deer and turkey with the whole family. Spray it down every time you walk in and out. Last year had a doe stick her head into the blind while I was at full draw. about 3" from my broadhead.

Love them. Haven't tried it with elk yet.

Cabela's has the Ameristep Battlefield ground blind in online Bargain Cave for $79 right now,  I use a few of them and they work fine.  This makes the cost of trying out a ground blind out pretty affordable.  I like them because if someone steals one it isn't that bad, and they work well.  I usually pay $99 on sale, this is a particularly good deal.

In hunt tests, we use a blind that is 5 feet tall and would easily hide someone on a regular height chair.
I find them in the dog section of a store.
