Hmmm, why I do not post anymore?  Good question, the list is.....short.  Yes, this forum has changed over the years, yes there are some bad apples, but then again, that is life is it not?  Everywhere one will go, they will find what they find here, whether in the virtual world or in the real world.  Unfortunately, if we are to live at all, we must enter the world of today, and deal with it as it comes, and even make an effort to change, for the better, those things that are not right, knowing that we can never please them all .  I love a good debate and will never shy away form one, so that is not why I no longer post.

The reason - Life!  My calling in life is one of a Pastor, minister, counselor and with the way our world is going, believe me you, I have been busy! Although, this year, I will take a young hunter bear hunting for the first time and I AM looking forward to that.

One day, maybe, we can begin to have civil debates, of all topics, again.  Time will tell.  Happy Hunting!

My 12 year old nephew drew a big bull tag and killed a 280 bull. His dad's first post to this forum was that bull. My nephew was so excited. After a few posts the "His dad probably shot that". "I wonder whose orchard he shot that in?" And my favorite...."That's a dink for that tag. I would not have shot it."  He cried that night and neither he or his dad have been back.

That's a shame.  My absolute favorite posts here are kid success pics and stories.

allowing a forum to find it's balance and not be overly moderated is the best way IMO. Retriever Training Forum was one of the best forums in dog stuff for a long time. The owner started moderating the heck out of it and wanted everyone to be PC all the time and it got real boring, real fast.

agree with that  :yeah:  If you haven't noticed its really quiet in church.  Don't need a 2am bar brawl but boring = dead.

For me it's the nit picking and judgement of the post's. like not wearing orange in the trophy pic or the pointing out of every detail that could be or has the possibility of being unsafe or maybe could be illegal not that it is but it could be if you look at it a certain way. There also seems to be a clique that can get away with saying things that others can not.I love this place but i don't post much because of this. :(
This nails it for me.The click,This site is a great site and i do enjoy it but at the risk of reprisal i think that reg.members don't hit as hard as it does when a mod gets in on it and takes sides.

At the same time, though, an unmoderated forum ends up getting boring because hardly anyone wants to jump in the slugfest.  I keep seeing comments about the negativity, bashing and nit picking here on HW, but then I go to a couple fishing forums and it is so much worse.  (like the barrels that didn't get the bad apples removed?)

You weren't asking for my opinion, I know (I post too much already).

I really enjoy CRyder.  I wish people would lay off of him, his posts are very entertaining.

I miss the young fellow who could really fish (I have forgotten his name).  Always stuck his tongue out in the pictures.  Everybody has a place here, that guy never hurt anybody.

The hunters/fishers from the Native American community have a special place here, in my opinion, because many of them spend MUCH more time in the field and have a lot to offer.  I really get tired of the "they only got that bull because they can drive behind the locked gates" baloney.  Blah, blah, blah.  Maybe there should be some sort of disclaimer posted by every tribal member before they post: "I'm an Indian, if you can't handle this message, go somewhere else and cry."

The east/west stuff is just silly, so I ignore it.  The Indian bashing really makes me want to leave.  They are hunters, too, and this is a hunting site.

 :yeah:

I was pretty shocked at the anti-native sentiment on this site! Someone sees a bull elk in the back of a truck after the regular season and it gets posted as another hate natives thread. And seeing one of the admins chime in on the bashing was a big surprise. I respect that they can have opinions too but still surprised me.

The east west thing I get but I feel is pretty childish, I bleed red just like everyone else.

In off-topics one of the posts that stands out to me was in the thread about the guy in the mid west who had a conceal carry permit and was shot by a cop. One person wrote that some people deserve to get killed. And I'm sitting here thinking what is wrong with these people!

There are a ton of good people on here though and I really appreciate the help that I have gotten on here and the members that I have met in person all have been really good people, hope to meet a lot more!

Put off topics on ignore and still here everyday.

The story of the 12 yo and his bull really is sad!

Bearpaw contacted me about my nephew's bull.  He provided the link and I do not see the comments that I referred to.  I am feeling very uneasy right now.  I know what I read and heard from my sister but I am wondering if I am blaming the wrong site for this.  Or could they have been deleted?  If I am confused as to which site, I apologize to Bearpaw and all the members.

No worries! It's possible the comments were posted on this site and the mods removed them. I checked the deleted items folder and found three messages that had been deleted that referenced the direction of the gun in the photo. However, if two moderators were deleting negative remarks at the same time it's possible the remarks you mentioned were completely removed with no record remaining, that's why I say the comments could have been posted on this site, we can't say for certain. Either way, your story illustrates the kind of negativity that we want to avoid on this forum and I thank you for speaking up. Stories like this help us all understand the impacts of negative remarks and the need to clean it up!

I agree with both of these comments.  I will not post stories or pictures on this site and caution my kids to stay away.  Several mods have openly voiced their anti native (or at least Washington native)  sentiment.  I will help quietly when I can, especially youth and advocate when given the opportunity.  I have met a few people that here that I now considered good friends so for that I owe my gratitude.

Wow. I sure don't see all the negativity and bashing that some say goes on here. Yes it definitely happens occasionally but it's not the norm.

Agree.

This is about as tame as a forum gets on the internet.

I feel like the average hunt-wa user is not the most internet-savvy person. This isn't a necessarily a bad thing, but these people tend to be easily offended and take common e-banter too seriously.

All i've seen this site do is grow and expand. Seems fine to me.

People just need to thicken their e-skin  ;)

Thanks for every single comment. We are listening closely so that we can find that happy medium where most members can enjoy and/or participate on the forum!
