I've sent a few friendly im's with a reason why someone may want to remove a pic. The problem with commenting in the post is a lot copy the original and then comment. Guy makes a mistake, tries to correct it, but can't edit all the copied replies.

That's the smart and polite thing to do.

I am in the boat as most of the comments.  I rarely chime in and dont think i even posted any of my hunts or pics from last year.  It got to the place as most have said that right off the bat it goes sideways.  Just not worth the time,

I found this site several years ago when i drew my moose tag via google.  And yes my first posts were for help with an OIL tag.  And yeah got nailed for it.  Kinda was taken aback frankly.  Did get two on here that via pm got me dialed in and i took if from there and took a pretty good bull.

I think the crap we are all describing is part of the cultural decline we see in general.  Some of it i also think is generational.  Not sure we can fix that.  Maybe a general reminder on occasion to all would not be a bad idea.

And maybe for new members when they sign up they get an auto-message on suggested edicate  and what to expect if they ask for help before the 100th post.

I consider myself a pretty sage and experienced hunter and think have a lot to offer to those that have not got the grey hair and miles on the boots as i.  I do my share of killing.  There are a lot of us here that are the same. So it is their loss i guess that they turn us off from contributing more than what some of us do.

Thug

I can certainly personally vouch for your last paragraph at a minimum. I've seen your knowledge shared first hand. Thank you for that. Now go post some pics from last years hunts!!
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

I've been a member since 2008 and have less than 10 posts.  That being said, I visit this site fairly often using it mainly for it's information and entertainment value.  I used to really enjoy the photos that were posted of hunts, successes, trophies, landscapes, scenery etc but have noticed a steady decline in the last few years.  I agree with the previous comments regarding nit picking and bashing.  I think most of us come to this site to distance ourselves from all this same crap we experience in our daily lives and don't want or need to have to put up with it here.

Most of my interactions with other members has been initiated through PM's.  There have been times when I've been blown off but there have been more instances that have been beneficial to those involved.

My interests in hunting has shifted from big game to prairie dogs and sage rats.  Unfortunately there doesn't seen to be too many other members with the same desire.  I think most of the reason is that Washington is not known as a hotspot for either animal so it takes a fair amount of travel time to do what I do.  My attraction is the accuracy factor required and the amount of shots fired on any given day far surpasses any other form of hunting or sport shooting (IPSC, IDPA, trap etc) that I've been involved in.

I remember asking a simple question about how other hunters go about managing scouting, and hunting time with family life. One response was "leave the bitch", and another was  :yeah:. I did the "report to moderator" thing and pm'd the lowlifes. Of course they both wrote back, and we're as personable with that response too. Wish I remembered who they were cause I sure would put their names out here. People are really tough when hiding anonymously on here. Yea...i'm still holding a grudge.

If someone posts an image with clearly illegal behavior, wouldn't you prefer to hear about it here first rather than from an enforcement officer? Lots of hunters violate game laws unintentionally. Many of the so called "internet police" are really trying to help in certain cases, as I see it.

:yeah: I agree, I think in many cases people are trying to help and it gets misinterpreted.

I agree too.
But have a question. Several have mentioned the worry of folks trying to get 10 points from turning in a person from something they saw wrong in a posted photo.......Is that really possible?  I get that a photo may start an investigation into something but to earn bonus points thought you had to have a little better info than...."Hey WDFW, heres this photo of________" now give me my 10 points.

Judgment of the officer.

"A person who provides information which contributes substantially to the arrest of another person for illegally hunting or killing big game or an endangered species as defined by Title 77 RCW is eligible to receive ten bonus points toward the special hunting permit drawing for one application category of deer or elk special hunting season permits."

I read this site every day, but only rarely post because I rarely have anything to contribute.

I don't even really agree with most of the comments in this post. The behavior your describing doesn't really bother me. Maybe it's because I'm only 30 and I grew up with the internet, but I'm pretty used to ignoring idiots on the internet. Or if I can tell that a thread is turning into "indians are ruining everything" or "Ford vs Chevy," I just go read something else.

I really like this site. I think it's best as a platform for sharing photos and success stories, real-time condition reporting (berry/mushroom elevations, snow conditions, river levels, road conditions, etc), and questions from frustrated newbies.

I'd love any changes to encourage those activities.

I agree. But I'm sure that's why you guys have a pm option. Once someone puts it out on the forum of so called "helping" out.  Then it's a snowball effect and it goes south real quick with bashing and negativity.

Yep, I posted some help on a late over the counter hunt for whiteies, and got lambasted for it by another member, hell I didn't care its not in an exceptional area just good chance to get a deer. And I'd post that spot again if someone was smart enough to ask about that unit.  :chuckle:

You weren't asking for my opinion, I know (I post too much already).

I really enjoy CRyder.  I wish people would lay off of him, his posts are very entertaining.

I miss the young fellow who could really fish (I have forgotten his name).  Always stuck his tongue out in the pictures.  Everybody has a place here, that guy never hurt anybody.

The hunters/fishers from the Native American community have a special place here, in my opinion, because many of them spend MUCH more time in the field and have a lot to offer.  I really get tired of the "they only got that bull because they can drive behind the locked gates" baloney.  Blah, blah, blah.  Maybe there should be some sort of disclaimer posted by every tribal member before they post: "I'm an Indian, if you can't handle this message, go somewhere else and cry."

The east/west stuff is just silly, so I ignore it.  The Indian bashing really makes me want to leave.  They are hunters, too, and this is a hunting site.

I have been gone for quite a while, I check in, but just dont have much to say about most posts. Dont have my desk top anymore, so not sitting at a keyboard,  and I suck at texting, think this took me 1/2 an hour.

My 12 year old nephew drew a big bull tag and killed a 280 bull. His dad's first post to this forum was that bull. My nephew was so excited. After a few posts the "His dad probably shot that". "I wonder whose orchard he shot that in?" And my favorite...."That's a dink for that tag. I would not have shot it."  He cried that night and neither he or his dad have been back.

Defending poachers and other criminals, politics, bashing the police. Off topics ruined this site for me. If I have something to say I usually just PM.
