Bearpaw or other mods, some time back I let people get under my skin and found myself becoming part of the problem here. I decided it was time I moved on. Went back and deleted most of my posts and all of my pics. I have mostly lurked since.

I like many now it seems  am not to interested in posting pics the whole world can see. So I have and idea/suggestion, might be a dumb one?! How about creating a new section called the success or harvest section where a mod needs to approve access to members. And for a member to be  approved they need to submit a pic of a harvest. Wouldnt have to be a trophy,  could be a duck, rabbit, or squirrel for that matter. From what I have read on here for the most part those trying to be the Internet game wardens are not the ones that post pics themselves. People that are comfortable posting pics on other sections still could. Just might be a way to create a place to make some comfortable posting pics that wouldn't otherwise.  I realize you probably are not looking to create more sections, but maybe eliminate or combine one or more of the less used ones? Just a thought.......
Don't feel bad I have went back and deleted my posts before and put emoji where my posts where took me a few hours once to go back over a month's posts.

Hmmmmmm.  🤔

And what I meant by submit a pic was submit a post post with a pic. Could even be a fish. Should be inclusive enough that anyone could find a pic to join. But only open to those that are willing to post their mugs.

I've posted a few general hunting questions, and tried to share some things that others might find interesting.  That being said, the one thing that keeps me
From posting more is that I get the feeling people want to keep "their spots" or GMUs private.  That's understandable, but aren't we here to learn and help?  I try to be courteous if I come across others in the field, but I feel like if I ask questions about regions or GMUs I'd just get a lot of responses telling me to go out and do my own scouting or nobody speaking up as they think everything should be a secret

I think the biggest thing that bothers people is when a guy draws a good permit and joins the forum asking where to go. I like many others have spent decades and hundreds upon hundreds of miles on foot and horse finding my favorite spots in the gmu's I hunt. I won't and have no problem with others not giving advice on specific locations to strangers on the Internet.  But am more than willing to give advice on hunting tactics and tactics for how to look for good areas.

I've been and still am in the same boat.  I've let myself become part of the problem in responding to others antagonizing and rude comments.  I'm not proud and decided it just isn't worth my time to log in and be part of the negativity.  I do hope the changes make a difference and the forum becomes a friendlier, outdoors focused place for good people to come together.

As for me, time will tell if I get back into posting or becoming a regular user.  Good luck going forward.

The few interactions I have had with people from this forum have been good. I would say that there is more good than bad, but the bad sometimes wears heavy on those that don't have time for negativity. It is not exclusive to this forum, I follow some EMS sites on Facebook and the bashing and down right tasteless memes are exponentially worse than replies I have seen on this site.

I don't get out much so really enjoy the stories and photos, but when a thread turns bad it makes it hard to read through. The plus is when a guys reads through the bologna and finds the pearls in the comments or links that make it worthwhile!

I also think I have been part of a problem member, you get internet polices, then you think you should call everybody out on anything , and you find yourself doing to other members the same thing that made you mad a week ago.
Been trying to be more respectful past few days, but then I find myself saying should I post .For fear of the ban 🔨,.or just lurking more.

Trash talkers and nit pickers killed it for me. Pulled all my hunts, pictures and longer posts on hunting strategies down. Took a huge step back from social media and just hunted for myself and kept the pictures and stories within a small group of friends. Came back to sell some stuff a few weeks ago and thought "same crap, just getting worse". I'd like to say I'd come back and share hunts, pics and stories again, but I just don't know if I would. I will be curious to see where this all leads to, best of luck to the Mods, you are extremely selfless people who don't get enough recognition.

You were another one of the good guys that added a lot to this place over the years. Miss seeing your posts and pics as well.

My  :twocents::  Anonymity doesn't work well. I use my real name on every forum to check myself; as self-regulation, to keep me in-line. Requiring real names in profiles might discourage some bad behavior.  Keep "cool" handles/avatars, but have real names in users' profiles.  I have no instance where using my real name compromised my privacy. For me, personal responsibility is more important than the privacy of using a screen name.

Wow!
Personnel accountability, what an outstanding concept!
You Sir are a rarity

Thanks.

I agree, a person should not have to hide behind a screen name and it probably facilitates some members saying things they might not otherwise say. However, unfortunately, we live in a society, especially those in urban western WA where if it was known that a person was an active hunter it could hurt their professional position. I'm in total agreement that the forum would be a better place if users names were their real names. But the forum cannot require real names due to the issues it could cause in the work place for some members.

Thanks for being an upstanding member!

wish I could change my username to my real name.   Made an account because my brother insisted.  Had no intention of participating so just threw something up.  Can they be changed?

It has been forum policy to not change names in most cases. One of the main reasons is other members get used to seeing a screen name and if everyone changes names all the time nobody will know each other. However, I like the idea of members being allowed to change to their real name, I will discuss this with the mod team and let everyone know what we decide!

Thanks to the suggestion from Shawn Ryan and BLRman, the moderator team is in agreement to allow members to change their username to their real name! Other members wanting to do the same can ask a moderator to do that for them. Other types of name changes will not be done.

BLRman is changed to Karl Blanchard
