Trophy Ridge React H5. Thoughts?
« on: August 13, 2017, 10:20:18 AM »
Hey everyone.  I'm back after a long absence.

Anyways, getting into archery.  Second season.  Upgrading all of my equipment.  Here's what I'm running right now.
Diamond by Bowtech tuned to 63 pounds.
Gold Tip 400 grain arrows with 125 grain field points (will be using Rage Broadheads for the season)
And a new Trophy Ridge React H5 sight.

I really like the H5 React sight.  The selling point was that you dial the bow in to 20 yards using the mechanical tool-less adjustment knobs, and then dial it into 30 yards using the sight adjustment knob, and the rest of the pins (30, 40, 50, and 60) will automatically be adjusted.

Well, it worked for the 20, 30, and 40 pins.  The bow is shooting dead on at those ranges, but its shooting about six inches high at 50 and 60, but because all the pins are on the same adjustment knob, you can't individually adjust individual pins.

Anyone have any experience on the Trophy Ridge React line of sights?

I was getting it confused with their other model...  Often the math needs to be massaged by playing with peep location slightly.  What feels good, isn't always the correct position for the entire spread of the pin range.  This is most evident in single pin situations in my experience, but because the housing doesn't move in your setup, position the peep to be most comfortable at your mid distance pin, then resight in and see if that improves it.

I've started using a react sight as well.
My 50 and 60 shoot slightly low.
I've just decided to remember to adjust. The more you shoot/practice the easier that gets. As long as it is dialed in for the vertical plane the horizontal is something you will be able to memorize.
I would recommend not only practicing from the set pin distances, but vary them. For instance shoot from 36yds, 44yds, etc so that you are getting the hang of shooting between the pins. (If that's not something you already do.)
Best of luck.

Try moving the sight closer to the riser or further from the riser that should make it all work I have 3 react sights a 5 pin a 7 pin and a single pin I love the react sights

Thanks for the replies.

I tweaked on it a little bit this morning and have it dialed right in to 30, yet now its just a shade to the right at 20.

I really like the react sight.  I think it'll just take some tweaking and then it'll be perfect.

Also remember that the react sights have a minimum and maximum arrow speed for the sights to be accurate

Have you tried "fine tuning" the react at longer distance. I've used them in the past and found that the farther out you dial that "2nd" shot in, the more accurate the overall sight is.

Example: dial in your stationary 20yd pin, then going back to 30 to set all others won't be as accurate as setting 20 and then going to 50 or 60 and using the up/down to get a more accurate 30,40,50,60 pin setting.

For me I always rough set at 30 before jumping back to 40 or farther, just so I knew I'd have a better chance at retaining that arrow...  :chuckle:

For left/right impacting I'd check your 2nd axis leveling (sight bubble). This can be as easy as hanging a string (bailing wire, surveyor twine. Etc) from the ceiling or other object with a weight on the other end (plumb bob). At full draw, using the plumb bob as reference for true-to-earth vertical level, align all your pins to the string and reference where your sight bubble lies in relation. A small favoring of the bubble to either side equates to left/right impacts that compound the further your shooting distance increases.

I was having the exact issues with my react sight as well. High at 50-60. Even lost a arrow   :bash:
Didn't change anything and shot bullseye at 50 today  :dunno:  my peeps starting to turn and I don't always let down to correct it, that could be part of the issues I was having, (not centering the rings).

Have the h5. I sighted my 20 yard pin in. Went and did the 40 yard pin. Shoots dead on at 30,50 and 60  :dunno: that was the way Cory at xxx archery said to do it. Worked for me.

Thanks all.
I think I'll try dialing in the 20 and then the forty, as I don't have easy access to fifty yards.
