Giant Huckleberry Field = No Sign of Bear
« on: August 16, 2017, 11:42:27 AM »
Gazooks - that's a first.  I don't think I've ever been  in this huckleberry field and not seen at least some poop!  Anybody else seeing some weird stuff this year with all the heat?  The only thing I saw different in the area is that a small watering hole was dried up so I figured they must have moved on to a better area.... Than a giant hillside of ripe huckleberries  :bash:

Red or blue huckleberries?  I checked my blue huckleberry patch last week and they are still very bitter and zero bear sign.  Usually ya have to pack a gun to pick because of the bears.

They're blue now.  We walked through about a third of the patch to confirm they were ripe and they were IN.  Tons of elk in there but no bear :(

I have only been seeing bear sign down low, under 1,500'.  My huckleberry spot is at 3,600' and zero bear or any other sign.

I ran into another bear last night, about 5500' in a swamp patch. I hesistated and didn't get the shot I wanted. Berries are ripe but too hot for these guys I think.

I'm checking my huckleberry patch that's around 5000 this weekend. Surrounded by deep timber so can keep cool and munch some Berries.
