Cam Hanes Leaves Eastmans
« on: February 27, 2009, 01:57:23 PM »
:( Its official, pretty sad news he has split ways with Eastmans Bowhunting journal.  Its public now, I had heard through the grapevine and keep it quite but know its been made public.  Man what a bummer, I really enjoy reading his articles in Eastmans.  Good Luck Cam in your future indevors.

It really doesn't surprise me.  He will be around doing hunting stories and such with other magazines and shows.  He has a good following.

His quiet unassuming nature probably didn't mesh well with the know it all Eastman guys, IMO.  At least that's my armchair theory.

I heard this a couple days ago, but can't find anything about it on the web....

I'm curious to hear what went down.

Maybe he got tired of hearing, "public land, DIY just like the average guy."  And then watching them hunt private land and use outfitters.....
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I suspect that you could be right.  I've been hearing alot about Eastmans and Private Ranches on other boards recently.

Hopefully he'll stay close to the film and writing side of things.
May the morning silence be broken with the wisp of vanes trailing blades to their mark.

he's still the host of RMEF's tv show at least, and RMEF spokesman....he's not going away from the public eye too far.

I heard Eastmans had photographic evidence that him and Archery 288 were caught in bed spooning each other on their caribou hunt?   :chuckle:  Jon can you elaborate?

Don't believe everything you hear! There is no truth in that!  :yike:

And it is official that he is not a part of Eastmans anymore... Sorry guys!  There is a lot behind it, but the main reasoning is he felt his time with his family was more important as he has always been gone on the road, and always working in the evenings on another article or editorial for the magazine among many other things.  I have known for a little while but as said above nothing was public yet and I was not going to spread the word until so...  The magazine will still be published and there will still be some great hunting stories each month so no worries on your subscriptions - however, Cam will not be editing them anymore.  He has a lot of "irons in the fire" and I am sure we'll see something new from him shortly.

If anything it makes me think more highly of him for sacrificing a little bit of fame to spend more time with the family.

The one thing that is constant in the archery industry in change.  Not Obama change, but normal, everyday, run of the mill change  :chuckle:  Randy Ulmer was switching bows (and sponsorships with the mfrs) like I change my socks.  Every year he was shooting something new.  Cameron is always carving out a new endeavor and challenge.  He respects the Eastman family like no other so I'm sure it was all planned and on good terms.  keep checking his site for updates:  www.crhpublishing.com

One of the FEW in the industry that I admire or respect.  He brought a lot to the Eastmans table as far as I am concerned.

He would be someone that I would love to hunt with. He seems like a real person. Plus I like the fact that he will shoot at stuff more than 30yds away.  :chuckle:
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
