Plinking with the 338/375 Savage Striker
« on: August 19, 2017, 11:51:54 PM »
I got out with the 338/375 Ruger Striker today to test a new load. I switched to shooting the 250gr Hornady BTHP instead of the 250 SMK and this was the first trip out with the new load after zeroing at 100 yards. As usual, I don't make any adjustments for wind when I shoot at this spot. I'm just trying to see how closely the predicted drops will match the actual drops at 1000 yards. The data called for 31.8 MOA so I adjusted 32.0 MOA and still came in a little low. The Shooter app I use said about 2.2 MOA to account for the 4.5 MPH wind and I'd say that would have been pretty close to accurate. The first shot from a cold clean bore was a bit left of the other two but still withing about 7-8".

For the record, the optic is a VX-3 4.5-14 with the regular old adjustments found on a hunting scope. Since this is primarily a hunting gun I like to keep the whole gun as compact as possible and this style of adjustment knob lets me keep a very low profile and have a screw on cap to keep the adjustments from getting bumped while the gun is in my pack.

The last clip in the video was a fun one because it shows how little muzzle flash there is even when burning 75 grains of powder in an 18" barrel. It's amazing how efficient this gun is.

That is really cool.

Thanks for sharing.

That thing has to be a hoot to shoot.

It's still one of my favorites out of all the guns I've owned. I'd be perfectly happy to get rid of everything else if I got to keep this 338/375 Ruger pistol and my Ruger Alaskan 375 Ruger rifle.

So if your 338/375 is a "hoot to shoot" your big CheyTac pistol must be a "blast" to shoot.  :yike:

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.  :chuckle:
