Chocolate Lab

UPDATE; Hank has no chip (kind of excited about that) and no one in town is owning up to letting him run loose, so he officially had a new home!

He appears to be in very good shape. I think in too good of shape to have been loose for a year. Either someone is feeding him and taking care of him or he has only been loose for a short while. I have had two chocolates and they were both  crazy dogs and very hard to control. I have heard the same from other chocolate owners. That dog seems subdued at least in the pics. Good luck in finding a home for him.

We know he's been loose for about a year because the locals have been talking about him for about that long. He's super resourceful and can climb Gates so I'm pretty sure that's where he's getting his food. He climbed over the gate in our pond yard to get a drink...

Have you had him checked for a microchip?

Both my hunting dogs are chipped for this very reason.

Nice looking dog.

I was thinking same thing . Any vet should have a scanner.

Getting him an appointment with the vet next week, figured I'd start here for the hopes that somebody knows them

Not sure if it is still a thing, but I seem to recall that in the past some breeders would put small tattoos on dogs from their kennel.  Used to be it was in the ear or lip or something.  The breeders would have more info than the vets on that.

You can run him in to most vets to get them scanned with out an appointment. The wife does it all the time since she owns a Bully rescue. Normally the breeder tats are inside the ear.

If you can't find his parents It's looks like you have a new best friend. He seems pretty happy

I know this is a late reply, BUT Chocolate is a color not a disposition. Most dogs and kids are a product of their enviroment. I have had chocolates for over 20 years. The mellowest dogs I have ever owned and not because of their color.
