Poaching in Everett / Snohomish Area
« on: February 27, 2009, 07:06:04 PM »
So today while on work, driving on the Lowell Larimer River Road, from Everett to Snohomish I thought I heard a bang from somewhere. I thought no way there is a hunter out here a month after season closed. I continue on to Snohomish, finish business, and turn around to head back. While driving back on the same road, I drove slowly by where I thought I heard the shot and found a dead mallard on the side of the road. I parked, got out and checked the bird. Dead, and wasn't stiff. Somebody was out there still hunting. I dropped the bird and got the hell out of there. I didnt see anybody around or out in the fields, but this just adds to the non ethical events that I have seen this season alone.

You should have called wildlife immediately, they are sitting on their hands right now, and would have set up on the area and listened and probably made an arrest.

Yeah thinking back on it, I should have. But I got freaked and didn't want to be seen with it, especially in the work truck.

Maybe the bang you heard was the bird hitting the side of your rig.  Saw a mallard try to hope accross HWY 20 a few days ago and two cars ahead of me hit it.  It bounced and the car infront of me nailed it good.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

When i picked it up it had definite signs of pellets entering the breast and a broken wing. If I am that lucky to hit a ducck while driving why spend money on a shotgun and ammo when gas money and a wide open field is all I really need?  :chuckle: :chuckle:

True, but sadly the majority of poaching incidents have little to do with someone poaching to feed the family; just ask a Game Warden/Wildlife Agent. The majority have no regard for the law. Your wasted mallard is a case in point.

I would still call even now as they can set up a sting and bust these guys, probably kids >:(
Just tell them where the incident happened and what time, maybe it will happen again
