2017 Coon Season

Anyone getting anxious for some coon hunting this year?  I have two pups I'm looking forward to getting on some masked bandits.  Anyone on the east side with a good dog or two that do not run off game or are grouchy in any way and need a partner once in a while, I'd love to tag along.  Good luck this fall and winter and be safe out there!!  Remember to share some photos once in a while.

The Dad of a HS buddy of mine in the 70's-80's made quite a bit of money each winter running dogs in Northern Missouri. He rode jumping mules during the hunt. In fact he bred them.
I never went with him, but heard he would dismount and they would jump over a fence so he could continue the hunt.

We used to use mules in Iowa.  We would climb off and put our jacket over the fence, that was the cue for them to jump over....talk about a tough animal to keep in a pasture!  They would hop anything

I can't guarantee the dogs are not going to run off game but we can give it a try! 

We usually wait until after lion season and hunt in the early spring.

That is where I met my first mule was on a nighttime coon hunt in Missouri!!

I normally wait until after deer season, but I'm going to take these guys out as much as I can.  I just got both of them back last month after a month of chasing bears down near Kooskia.  I had them with a guy down there.  Neither started treeing, but my young male was making all the trees including some really long races in some really rough country.  If we can't make it out before lion season, then after lion season and you ever want some company, I'd love to tag along!  Have a good season Bart!!
