Money grab for sure.

It's only a money grab if you put in.

at least now my plans are finalized. the list of unclaimed is up but nothing really interesting. some cow tags in there and some youth extras but nothing for me to try and fight for.

The second drawing has paid off for me a couple times, the buck hunts in the unit I like to hunt still give me way better odds then drawing a home state quality tag! Its just like winning he lottery you cant win if you don't play!

If ID were as bad as WA I'd have a $300 deer tag in my pocket rite now that I really wouldn't care about filling. As is, I struck out on both deer draws and I'm out $30 instead. They're getting $980 from me this year between apps, antelope tag, and an elk tag. I'm really thankful their system doesn't require me to pay the tag price before I apply.

Oh well.
You can't put a price tag on a good time right???
I will be paying for 3 non resident licenses and all the tags this year.
Perhaps a couple 2nd tags too.?

Same 3 folks hunting in WA too.

Let the games begin. :)

Care to elaborate why? If it's a nonrefundable hit then you're incentivizing more out of state guys to hunt during general seasons because they now have a general tag. if it is refundable it becomes a headache having to refund thousands/millions of dollars each year. Non residents don't apply for the same tags you do except in the second drawing which odds would still be horrible if they didn't apply.

We don't have the same status.

There is a "NON" in front of our status and we pay dearly for those 3 extra letters..

Actually out of state hunters are only limited to the 10% of tags in idaho in the first draw for deer elk and pronghorn. OIL and the second draw everyone is equals. And yeah it might be a money grab for a second draw but they are trying to get all of the draw tags sold instead of having tags drawn then not picked up/paid for. So it's a little beer money for chance or pony up a lot of money for little choices to hunt

Non residents are capped at 10% in the OIL draws.  I agree that its fine for there to be stipulations on Non residents but given their system it's pretty hard to argue that non residents have the same status as residents

I doubt there are many families in Idaho that pay as much to hunt there as I do. I'm happy to fund your game department, you're welcome.

How do I have the same status as an Idaho resident? The 10% cap across species for draw tags puts me at a firm disadvantage to residents. My antelope tag I drew I had only a 4% chance of drawing as 22 other non-residents applied for it, while residents applied for the 24 tags set aside for them with 8% odds of drawing them. The elk tag I applied for had 20 tags for non-residents (248 applied) with an 8% chance of drawing while residents applied for 200 tags with 11% odds. The deer tag I applied for was a late season tag that only sporadically is available to non-residents, this year all 10 tags went to residents, us 9 non-residents guys that applied for it had a 0% chance of drawing it. I can't find any hunt where I'm on any sort of equal footing  as you.

Application fees are more expensive for out of state people in your state and all other states I've ever looked at.

However Idaho, unlike Washington, actually has a game department that manages game.

The regs say resident apps are $6.25 while non-res are $14.75. Not that big of a financial hit for me but that still has non-res hunters paying 2x as much for each application.
