I-90 Corridor hunting - can you even hunt?
« on: August 30, 2017, 10:06:41 AM »
I had planned to hunt grouse some up in the Campbell-Global land but it is currently closed and may not open for a while.  I was looking at other areas along I-90 and talking to DFW about some gated logging roads and they said to talk to the NFS about elevation closures for shooting along I-90.  Online I found info on target shooting bans and a ban area but everything states that does not apply to hunting.   The ranger at the North Bend Ranger Station said there is ZERO shooting along the I-90 corridor but couldn't tell me exactly what that corridor was.  The King County No Shooting zone map does not show anything off limits along I-90 past Highway 18.

I know this isn't the best area to hunt grouse but is a good place to get the dog out fora bit being close to home without driving to better grounds up in Snohomish County but I'd sure like a straight answer to clear up the confusion.   It shouldn't be so hard.   Anyone really know what's up?

Rule #1:  Don't believe what the ranger says.

There are lots of places to hunt along I90 even in King county.

There is a technically correct answer, but it is a long and winding road that will get you to it on almost all of these shooting/hunting restrictions because there are multiple jurisdictions and Agencies that overlap on most all of them.

zero target shooting but hunting is allowed.   I believe this was to stop the people hauling in trash, shooting it and then leaving it.  Valid hunting license is what is the qualifier for "hunting".

Go hunt grouse on the national forest and don't worry about it. Shooting may not be legal, but hunting is. Don't trust employees of the USFS especially if they're in King County- probably are personally against guns and hunting.

Go to cle elum and take a right.  If you hit the fire you went too far.  Plenty of public land and I have seem more than enough grouse right on established trails.  I'm hitting it soon.

Cle Elum is definitely in the plans, just can't do that every morning before I need to do a bit of work.   Trying to find something a bit closer for those days.  Spoiled by being able to pheasant hunt 10-30 minutes from my house once that season opens up.
