Goodman unit
« on: March 13, 2018, 06:28:58 AM »
I was wondering if I could get a little info on major access points ?

I also understand theres a timber company fee associated with this unit.
any info will be helpful
I figure with the lack of cow opportunities east side archery
time to start revisiting some west side units
I may also try Wynoochee and the Hoh/Clearwater

Just drive the boundary.  Lots of access points.  Good chunk of DNR ground in the Goodman also.  Good elk numbers on the west end.  Have to be willing to cover ground on foot.  Now is the time to start scouting.  Clearwater is mostly public.

Lots of good cuts in there.  Where it doesn't seem steep and you think you're getting a break, it makes up for it with how dense stuff grows there and small swampy areas.  It isn't high elevation, so no long spells of cold to freeze off plants each year like some of the other units.  Lots of salmonberry in there.  The bulls like to hang out together in big groups in those swampy salmonberry patches all summer and just eat, eat, eat.  They get really fat in there, even at young ages.  they scatter and are pretty tough to find after early bow.  I think Rayonier is about $275 for the specific permit.

Plan on hunting around there as well. seems as though the general access permit offers a lot of land to hunt. paying for the Goodman permit is definitely an option for me as well. Talked to the Rayonier guy on my recent steelhead trip said would be worth it if a person puts in the work....
