Q,

I custom ordered mine with the hole drilled into it to run the cord.  However, That could compromise the fire rating I learned. I have since plugged it.

But I do the same with some large desiccant bags and periodically recharge them in the oven.  Has worked great.  My safe is in the house though, where it is generally pretty dry.

I have mine in an un heated garage also. I tried the Remington one along with a few others, had to use ALLOT of oil on everything to keep it from rusting. Put in a Golden Rod and a temp/moisture meter, no more problems.
