Got into reloading and was wondering how versitile this round is? Is there a light round that would be good for rock chucks and targets. I haven't checked the book yet but figured I would ask.

You can load up some light loads but it'd be such a powder burner you'd go broke loading for it. If you want a 30 for that I'd look at a 308. It'll still kill anything in the lower 48 but would be cheaper to load. But yes there are some light bullets you can throw in the 300 WM

For targets and vermin the 223 is pretty cool. Cheap to load, but right now it's impossible to find primers for.

I have only two rifles bigger than a .22 and they are the 22-250 and the 300wm so that's why I'm asking. I reloaded some 22-250 and they shot great. I picked up the dies for the 300 yesterday for $15. but no bullets or powder or primers. I took your advice on getting lots of supplies for the 22-250 so thanks. I have 120 factory rounds left and reloaded 100 rounds the other day plus have enough to reload another 400. I don't think I'll have to buy any more for a looong time. Any advice on the 300 would be helpful.

I see. Well, I don't own a 300 winny, just a lowly 30-06. I used to shoot coyotes with (Speer?) TNT hollow points. I believe 110 grainers but your not supposed to push them too fast or they'll come apart. They were accurate buggers though.

If you want explosive performance on chucks, load up some 125 grain Ballistic tips or 110 grain v-max.  I have never tried them, but have some buddies that use them.  You can also use 165 grain Ballistic tips behind a full charge of RL22 - my personal favorite for long range chucks and 'yotes.  I am using the 168 grain Berger VLD's now.  They are devasting on coyotes and extremely accurate.  I can't wait to try them on chucks!  Hope this helps

Use the 22-250 for varmit/predators and the 300 for everything else. Use a good big game load, and if you want to call coyotes with it,  go for it, its good practice. 180 grain is my choice. there are not any "fur friendly" 300 loads.

Be careful loading light loads in a Mag cartridge.  It can be dangerous to under load them.
