Has an infrared video camera, is it worth $1000 to us hunters?

That's not too much more than the retail price on an iPhone 7 plus.

Definitely not worth it. Using infrared while hunting is illegal, anyway

It's not for coyotes.  But still not worth it IMO.

I use a phone far more than anything else I own so if it costs me $1/day to get whatever one works best its not a big deal.   3 year life x $1/day = approx $1000

1000 is the retail price. The contract renewal price will likely be far lower.

I agree. If you're into the technology aspect of it, phones these days are worth a lot. Navigation, awesome cameras, communication, the list goes on and on. An infrared camera is cool. I don't see a place for it hunting, but I use my phone for a lot of other things besides just a phone.
I just got a new iPhone 7 plus and the full retail price is almost $900 and they've been out for close to 2 years I think.

I was due for upgrade on mine. The price per month(Verizon) equates to the posted retail price/24 months. No discounts. I guess it would depend on the provider.

I may upgrade to a 6 or 7 when the new one comes out. The prices should be pretty decent on one of those.
I'm still with the 5

I'm still rockin the S4,  kids ruin their phones.   I think it's all the apps they DL and it hacks their phones.

I'm always the last to upgrade, which I want to upgrade because the S4 doesn't do wifi call ans SMS texts (AT&T thing) whereas the S7 and up does.  I don't get cell service at home.

If I lived where you guys live and had reception issues, I probably wouldn't have one either. Or maybe I'd have a flip phone or something just for emergencies.

The 8 is the new one shipping in next few weeks.  The X one is fancier screen and costs a bit more and it ships in 2 months.  New strategy to introduce a premium version.

If you're getting it just for the infrared, I second the seek. It's most likely a better quality imager than what Apple got on the cheap.

It should work great for finding Biggie's at night.

I don't have the regs in front of me right now.
I know hunting with infrared is illegal, but is hunting with infrared equipment on your body illegal.
If so, then just being in possession of that phone while hunting could put a hunter at risk of being ticketed.

As the resident engineer trust me when I say that I've done the math.  Buy the phone outright, pay month to month with whatever provider you want (check out tmobiles cheap pay as you go plans).  Then, when you want a new phone, sell the old one on ebay and repeat.  You'll save money in the long run.  It hurts the first time since it is a big out of pocket expense but pays in the long run, especially with the aforementioned tmobile plan.
I know I've lost it, let me know if you come across it

There are many reports about how difficult it is to manufacturer the new iPhone X.  It will be VERY hard to get in first few months.  http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/09/11/iphone-x-supply-constraints-limit-apples-production-to-less-than-10000-units-per-day

If you don't order at 12:01am on October 27th I don't think you will see one until some time in 2018.

I'm upgrading to the 8+ and the first app I'll install will be OnX!

If you're with Verizon, you don't buy the phone anymore. You pay X amount per month for it. Or you buy the whole thing upfront. I got the iPhone 7+ on the exact month I was due for an upgrade and it's like $35 a month for 2 years. I didn't want to shell out the ~$800 upfront so I'm on the payment plan. There is not $.01 to save either way you go. I would have kept my 6 longer but we decided to give our daughter a phone so she got my 6 and I got the new one. I'm not typically the guy who upgrades every 2 years.
