Bear Hunting around Republic
« on: September 15, 2017, 09:13:49 AM »
Headed to Republic for a few days to take my son now hunting. Original plan for this weekend was to go to Teanaway but most anywhere is on fire or closed. Went to Republic over Labor Day weekend and saw some good bucks so my son wants to go back. I thought about bringing my rifle and taking some time to find a bear. Never hunted bear in the area and thought I would reach out to see if anyone is willing to share some areas where I might have a chance. Thanks All!

Its a good area for bear.  But its so dry and loud stalking isn't the best method. Find the food, water, and pay attention after 3pm.  Try calls and don't shoot a Grizz!
MAGA!  Again..

:yeah:  It's terrible noisy, sitting and watching food sources is your ticket. There are bear literally in every direction from Republic, just pick a creek drainage and look for food.

Noising woods has been our challenge with spot and stalking deer when we go bow hunting. I don't bow hunt but my son took it up this year so we don't have blinds or stands yet. Everything hears you coming miles away. I thought about going up to Swan Lake to see what Bears might be up there. Thanks for any help.

Try the logging roads. We got to 60 yards of a mama and 3 cubs this morning. A few blows on my call got them running in instantly and I nearly pooed. Lots of bear up here. Voulcan in Curlew has had a few bears so far taken, always filled with coasties though 😉, same with around the bodie lookout. Sherman always has something. The orient side of boulder has a bunch! Um... haven't heard much from swan area but the huckleberries were ridiculous so I'm sure you can find something. I use a double reed distress from rain shadow and it's the best. I've never had bear run in, we were in jeans and flannels. I had a snow camo pack. Sitting on a rock pile. Calling is the best! Even for mulie does, a fawn distress will draw em in.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen
