Too many berries

Probably eating cascara berries or elderberry especially causing the poo explosion

Eating wild plums..Here is the tree limb the bear broke off while feeding and then took a dump. I drove past this spot an hour earlier going to a lease and on the way back the limb was broken off and the poo was in the road. You can see the shape of the bears butt where the poo splattered all around as it squatted. Can you just imagine the sound???

I cant believe this has gone 2 pages.........especially the arguing about the berries. 

So lets clear it all up. Although I know what berries were in this poo, I wanted to be POSITIVE, so I popped a few in my mouth for a good ol taste test, besides it kinda looked like fruit cake(see crop pic below)
Welllll it didn't taste like fruit cake..........tasted like crap. 









PS: FYI, FWIW several kinds of berries were in this bears diet,  2 of which were both mentioned in this thread.

I'm sorry if it came across as if I was questioning anyone.  My friends make fun of me,cause when we walk up on crap, I am always picking it apart and wanting to learn more of the food source. I've actually have meant to ask before on hear about this. And I came across a plant ( can't remember what it looked like) that had these type seeds in it.

I watched a bear in the subalpine yesterday that was feeding on red berries of a plant that I assumed was sumac but it didn't look quite right and I'd never seen a bear eat sumac.  After reading here and doing some checking, I think that it was likely mountain ash.  Red berries that were round and 1/4 to 3/8 inch diameter in kind of a flat or level arrangement near the top of the bush, which was usually shoulder to head high to me.  The leaves were generally green but many bushes were changing color toward orange, though sumac usually turns quite bright red if I recall correctly.  I'm no plant guy but will remember mountain ash.

Rick your correct the sow tried to get us to follow her while the Cubs scampered up a tree. Great times in the woods for us and great memories. Also remember we came across rocks she turned over looking for food. And we were chasing turkeys that trip.

I didn't take it that way..Nice to have a place we can get together and banter and even learn sometimes. I know I have. I see LOTS of bear crap-- even in my yard.

Guys.  We're talking about bear poo.  Sometimes it's fun to argue about silly things like bear poo. 

If anyone thought there was ANY upsetness or ill-will involved in the back-and-forth about which berries are in the poo, I only have this to say:

I found a bear scat packed full of apricot pits. Looked painful! He was raiding someone's orchard in Loomis.

I think the bear caught a hunter eating a cranberry granola bar. Actually t looks like wild rose hips.
