Hunting deer near Ellensburg
« on: September 22, 2017, 08:50:11 AM »
Little help, plan on hunting deer north of Ellensburg rifle october season. Need camping spot for motorhome not too far from paved road. Looking at Wilson creek rd and Schnebly camp area. Anyone been there lately that can give a location for a camp site, fully self contained so nothing but a place to park. will have a 4x4 to run into the hills for the hunting. Have not hunted the area for 40 years so like a new game to me.
Thanks

I'd probably go further north towards liberty.   Smoother roads by far, lots more places. To set up camp in a motor home. Hunt from camp, shoot a migrator.  Most of the roads on the ellensburg front, by the time you get to the deer, your dishes will be sorted by weight.

How about Taneam Creek there are lots of good spots off of that road.
Lead em if they're running.

Need a place like do north of Eburg. Can't get over there until Friday before season. Getting old is the chits with Doc. appointments. I realize pumpkin patch hunting, but maybe someone can chase a monster to me. LOL

The Reecer Cr. road would get you much further and higher into the Colockum "on pavement" than any other of the roads in.

Thanks guys. Any spacific spots on Reecer cr rd, that puts me fairly close and reasonable CLEAN access for the MH.

There are spots along reecer creek road to pull off and camp but like others have said it is a zoo during modern season and Friday night it will be really slim pickens for a spot.  Unfortunately with what I have seen this year it will be really slim pickens for deer as well.  I haven't seen a legal buck up there for the last month and a half and two weeks of that I was pounding the woods everyday archery elk hunting.  I am sure the crowds will get one or two pushed out of their hiding places but be prepared to just talk your rifle for a walk in the woods this year.  The good news is if you are in the woods you have a better chance of shooting a buck than if you are on your couch at home.

Good luck out there this year, unfortunately it is going to be a tough one I think.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Yup.

It's an absolute zoo in there.  I'd take these guys advice and go further north if you could.  If not, show up a few days early.
