I would venture to guess that the "Big Ol" button sewn on the shoulder of my plaid mackinaw isn't what people would use today.  :dunno:

Both of which date myself.

The button or the Mackinaw?

Lift weights & get buff.  Or buy shoulder pads.  I think you can get them in camo.   :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I have always worn a hunting pack in the field.  I just let my rifle sling ride over the top of the pack strap.  Stays on pretty good for me.

Get a Boonie Packer Safari Sling. No more sore shoulder, no more slipping off the shoulder. Much faster to shoot. Just raise the rifle to shoot and you are ready. Bot one years ago and have been very happy. Use it on my shotgun, too.

boonie packer safari sling
sew button on shoulder
rubber sling
sock for gun and stow it in pack

Of them all I like the boonie packer sling or the rubber sling.  I use the rubber sling on my shotgun for trips into the blind.  Regular slings slip off my shoulder.

Backpack chest strap over sling.

I do this when I need my hands, and I do not want to stow my rifle.

I would venture to guess that the "Big Ol" button sewn on the shoulder of my plaid mackinaw isn't what people would use today.  :dunno:

I use to sew a small button on the right shoulder of all my hunting jackets or pack strap.

The Claw Sling also helps to keep from slipping.

Hands are for carrying a rifle, slings are for shooting or carrying over your head and arm if you need both hands temporarily.

Slogan Outdoors http://www.sloganoutdoors.com/ makes a decent rubber sling that stays on your shoulder pretty well if you must carry it that way and will also work as a shooting sling and a very secure double pack strap style sling when you need both hands.

The Gun Bearer drives me nuts, think I would rather leave my gun in the truck than carry it that way again.
