Ford escape headlights issue
« on: September 23, 2017, 09:39:28 AM »
I recently just put a engine in a 02 ford escape, and as soon as I turn the ignition on the horn starts going off and the flashers and headlights start flashing, and the power locks won't work unless the ignition is on. Ive checked the wiring, fuses, relays and everything seems to be working. The only thing I can find online about this is it needs to be put on a scan tool. Check engine light isn't on, I had one of the hand held scan tools put on at O'Reilly's and it wouldn't read anything, they said when it does this a fuse is usually out.

Figured I'd ask all you guys on here for anything I'm overlooking. Could be something stupid and easy but after spending countless hours on this car it's getting frustrating.

Sounds like a PATS issue. If it is,  it won’t turn on the check engine light and it won’t set any codes that O’Reilly’s can read unless they can read body or communication codes. As far as I know, all they can read is powertrain codes.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

That's about what I found out online and was hoping I didn't have to take it in the shop but sounds like I need to...I was just hoping the cheapo reader O'Reilly's had would help cause they were only 2 blocks away  :chuckle:

Jackalope it was the pats system, I was told it needed to be flashed since it sat so long, called the dealership and they wanted $120 to do it. Not wanting to spend that much I did more research and troubleshooting and  find out there was a fuse blown that I overlooked I replaced it and tried the key fob and bingo it turn it off  :chuckle:  simple things can be a headache. I got the car running but running real rough, after a week of fighting that the #4 and #6 cylinder were plugged in backwards. The harness was already on the motor when I got it so I assumed it was all plugged correct...I was close to replacing the timing set as everyone I talked to even a shop told me it was a timing issue. Low and behold a 40 Min YouTube video saved me a ton of money that didn't need to be spent. Swapped the 2 plugs and it runs perfect.
