Was hoping to get some input from someone that has hunted Region R or Y in Wyoming. As far as I can tell there are two distinct parts of the unit--there is the Bighorn National Forest on the east side and the BLM land on the west side. Based on the harvest reports, it looks looks like the units with mostly BLM land have a higher success rates so that's where we'll be focusing. On Google earth, the west side of the unit looks like dry, broken, ground for the most part, with some agriculture along the private land in creek bottoms.
Anybody have any general advise about what type of habitat to look for? My gut says to wander out into the desert but my head says to stay close to irrigated land. It looks pretty dry there.
We don't care at all about trophy quality for the deer tags (decided to focus on the antelope tag for that), and would be happy to put on anything legal. My wife and I each have a general deer tag and a doe tag so we're hoping to be driving back with a full truck.
Also, anyone have a recommendation for a taxidermist in Bighorn Basin? Between the two of us we have a buck lope tag and two buck deer tags and want to make sure we've got plans in case we stumble across a good one (or three). I remember a member on here mentioning that either they or someone they knew had a shop down there, but I can't find the thread.
