Smart phone sim reader
« on: September 26, 2017, 05:16:02 PM »
I've been packing in my lap top to read my game cam cards.  There has to be a better way.  Any suggestions?

Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.

Curious as well. I prefer a stand alone reader though. Don't want to load my phn up with a bunch of un needed data.

Do I need some sort of app to use that?  This would be for an Android phone.

You can find about a thousand different card readers online from $5-$15.  I have an android and downloaded the ES File explorer app and its lets you manage/navigate/view photos very easily. I think this is pretty similar to the reader I have

Without the ES file explorer app I believe your phone will give you a screen full of thumbnails then you have to click on each one individually then back out and click on another one without the ability to swipe to the next photo. with the app you can just keep swiping.  fyi.

Some trail camera brands (I know Cuddeback was one of them) format the card a certain way to where it can't be read by sticking it in a digital camera. I think it might be the way it does it's folder structure on the card.

Thats the issue I had with my card reader connected to phone.  So I just dump them to phone, to view in field, then dump to laptop back in camp.

Anybody have issues with the boneview deleting trail camera photos on sd card?  Have a samsung J7 and the Android boneview. Lost about 4 dozen pics from my camera yesterday when trying out boneview.  I had installed the apps but when plugged device into phone it reformatted sd card and placed two new empty directories on the card.  The trail cam read 49 new pics when i walked up to remove card but after the boneview mess i reinstalled card in camera and they were gone and i have no idea what was on them.  The online troubleshooting was no help as i had followed their method... any know work arounds? Or just buy cheap digital camera?

I've never used boneview. But i have the apple sd reader. After hiking in and not being able to review my sd card cause it won't upload. Come to find out if it's only a few pictures on it. Works great. But couple hundred it faults out. So I pack in an old coolpix digital camera. No worries and never lets me down. Card reader found its new home in the trash bin.

Also their are programs that may help recover deleted pictures from an sd card. I've never used one. But it also depends on if other files get loaded over the top of pictures or videos. I'm far from tech smart. Just going off what the I.T guys at work said. Might be worth a google search.

Here's one link.
