Sherman unit GMU101
« on: October 03, 2017, 10:33:02 PM »
Me and my hunting partner are western Washington deer hunters, but we are taking a 5 day stab at hunting the Sherman unit (GMU 101) opening week. We are giving it a go because we are considering doing an Idaho deer hunt, but before we do we want to maximize Washingtons best. I'm not asking for any honey holes or super secret shortcuts, but if anyone would like to shed a little first timer wisdom for this particular unit, it would be much appreciated

I used to hunt idaho all the time when I lived there. It's hard to not see something if you are putting in the effort! I haven't hunted Sherman though in a few years, but probably will be in that area during late season.  As far as I remember, if you want mules, get up high where the trees thing and there are rocky crops. For whitetail, there are lots of old homestead fields in the mid to low elevation near the highways and roads, I got lucky in one of those. And can't stress enough, don't forget your bear tag!

I’ve hunted in the 101 for 29 years..first let me mention that there is not a modern firearm late season in this unit. Sherman 101 is a big unit, depending on what your hunting, mules or WT might shape were you go in this unit. Farther west in the unit more mule deer and some big boys too! Compared to other surrounding units less WT, but less hunters as well. Winter took its toll on deer.....Lots of bears!

There's plenty of whitetails up to 5,500' and some higher.

Modern is crazy up there so be prepared. Anywhere...I mean anywhere on Colville National Forest will have deer. You could throw a dart at a map and have just as good of luck as following some tip from someone one the forum.
