I second the Safari sling!

I also have a Safari Sling, but let me caution you with this: Your hunting partners will hate it.  Although it is very comfortable, and affords easy access to the rifle, the barrel basically points at your partners head when you are walking side-by-side.  Most of my friends won't hunt with me if I use it.  I have to be solo before I can deploy it.  Otherwise it is great.

I make sure to walk on the left, or in front, when deploying the Safari sling around partners.

First time I saw one at a sports show probably 20 yeas ago, the 1st question I asked the guy was how does it work with a backpack? He showed me how well it worked, and in my experience he was right.

The first time you hunt with one you will notice the problem when someone tries to walk along side you on the wrong side. Its a pretty easy fix to make sure you are in front or the other hunter is on your side away from the muzzle or behind you. Its just common sense and does not take a whole lot to fix. Don't withhold buying and using one because they are great for hunting. You won't regret it.

Yes you have to be cautious with where it's pointed but if I'm near someon I just point it down, it's kind of uncomfortable that way, so if I'm walking with someone I chose the correct side or use it like a standard sling
