Pat Murphy @ Northwest Performance Dogs
« on: October 07, 2017, 03:56:20 PM »
So I've been trying to get a hold of Pat the last few weeks and finally set a time to meet up for an eval with my pup before starting our 1 on 1 training.

He told me that he'd text me the address... but didn't follow through.

I grab the address online and show up at our designated time....and he's nowhere to be found and won't pick up the phone.

Now I know the guy gets rave reviews, and I seriously couldn't wait to start working with him...but WTF?!

Anyone else have experience working with him?

The lack of communication has been a serious turn-off and I'm leaning towards finding a different trainer entirely.

I've heard good things about him but for me that isn't enough if he didn't show up.
I would look for another trainer imo

He probably has something going on in life, or has more work than he can handle. Look someplace else.

Careful here you may not know the whole story yet. Hopefully he doesn't have a good reason for not being there, you're kinda dragging his name through the mud.
Lead em if they're running.

I hope Pat is ok and nothing serious.

Ian - I just picked up my chocolate lab from another trainer and happy. I also recommended my friend to the same trainer and things turned out great. He also is not the best of being responsive but he puts in good work on dogs.

PM me if you'd like to learn more and I have a few YouTube videos posted on here early in my pups training.

Pat is doing it to himself, imho.  The most miniscule effort to answer a phone or reply to a text after he didn't follow through with his original promise to text the address would have prevented this thread.

Even if something terrible happened, he should have a backup plan to have a trusted friend/family member contact his clients on his behalf to let them know. Just good business practice.

I'm not dragging his name through the mud at all.

If it was a 1 time thing, without me having to run him down just to get him to return an email/call for 3 weeks, I'd definitely be apt to give him the benefit of the doubt.

But given my experience thus far, it seems to be par for the course.

And based off the PMs I've gotten on here, other forum members have had similar experiences.

He called me late Sunday to inform me that the address on his website was incorrect and we must have gotten our signals crossed...which still doesn't excuse the fact that the dude doesn't answer his dang phone lol.

I'm meeting up with a few different trainers based off advice from other forum members and will go with the best fit, and hopefully one who is available to communicate.

Unfortunately in the dog training world you typically only here the good, and usually not the bad, about trainers.  Owners are often afraid to speak up because they are afraid of the backlash.  There's several well recommended trainers in WA that Id NEVER send a dog to, but to the unknowing they get good recommendations. PM's are the way to go in these situations because you get to hear the real truth.  Unfortunately, these types of things are not uncommon.
