What kind of food do you take with you for a day hunt?
« on: October 12, 2017, 09:45:59 AM »
Curious to know what everyone likes to eat while they are in the field. Looking for some ideas for this weekends blacktail hunt. If you take warm food how do you keep it warm?

Jerky, protein bars, a banana or 2. Something light that also leaves little garbage to pack out.

Jerky, protein bars, trail mix, and usually a big, yummy sandwich (lots of cheese and meet) on a big crusty roll.

If I wanted something hot, I'd take a cup of soup or mountain house and a Starbucks Via coffee, and a small alcohol stove, but I usually don't for a day.

Have to have jerky, and peanut butter jelly sandwiches!  The sandwich only gets better the more it gets squished!

Sliced apples with cheese eaten together and Sisters Bakery granola chunks. Both of those combined with a little water will keep me full and energetic for hours.

Not much as trying to maintain my weight during the winter months. Wilderness day hunt, usually a mtn house and Jerky. Cliff bar will be thrown in there now and again. I usually pack a jet boil with me. Never know when you'll want hot water for a drink.

Day hunts out of the truck, dinner meat, hard boiled egg or two, apple, and a vegetable serving.

I am always hungry when out hunting so I tend to pack a lot of food. My list is usually a protein bar, banana, pbj, some kind of sandwich, trail mix, clif bar and fruit snacks. Nothing makes me more angry than having to ration snacks or even worse, running out and being hungry the last hours of the hunt.  :bash:

Keep the good food in the truck so when you're back from the day or taking a break between pack trips you can fill up on a good big meal.

I use Sandwich Thins to make a couple turkey, ham, cheese, lettuce, onion sandwiches.
Jerky,
Oh Boy Oh Berto Cocktail Peps,
cookies,
trail mix and breakfast bars for emergencies

Always have "road food" in the truck.
Usually Nacho Cheese Doritos, fired chicken or wings.

Water, jerky, almonds, bananas, candy bars. I take my Coleman stove and at some point during my day, I cook a can of soup. Oh, and I make peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. Toast the bread so it don't get soggy. They last a while too, I had one in my pack for like 2 weeks, and it wasn't green, so I ate it.
