My deer hunt started with a BANG
« on: October 14, 2017, 09:39:29 AM »
Left the house at 2:00 AM to get to my normal deer spot in time.

1/2 hour later, on the freeway doing 65, and experienced the biggest BANG imaginable.

Transmission just exploded.   Sparks flying out both side.   Spit a drive line.

Looks expensive under there............         :'(

It just keeps getting better.......

My wife came and got us. She got there about 3:30.    Truck was packed with stuff for a 4 day tent camp.    It wouldn't fit in her car. So we grabbed the rifles and went home.

I just went to tow the truck to the tranny shop.

Plan was to lighten camp and take my wife's Subaru.

But the plan has changed again.

My truck has been towed......   with my deer camp in back.

Sure hoping it was State Patrol impounding.    That will piss me off because I was a safe distance off road.    But it won't piss me off as bad as if someone else decided they wanted it.

ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?????????????

My current belief is that they are part the an organized crime family.......   and they operate in partnership with the State Patrol.

I've always been pro-LEO, but for the life of me I don't know why the patrolman felt compelled to tow me.   Right now I'm so pissed I smell a kickback.

Off hours gate entry fee, trespass fee, 2X the cost for a Saturday to to impound me, 2X the cost to tow it out on Saturday.

Frickin crooks.

Contest the impound. If you where well off the road they can't tow you without tagging you first.

I recently had a break down on the high way, state patrol told me they any vehicle left visible from the highway unless you call it in with make, model, and plate number so they know you're coming back to get it.

UPDATE:     Truck is still in pieces so we took the Subaru deer hunting this weekend.    We hunt blocks of public land.    My son and I pushed a block this AM, got back to the Subie to hit the next spot and........ dead as a door nail.

We were in a fairly remote little road.    First vehicle came by about 1.5 hours later.   I'd like to say I had jumper cables, but they are in the truck.    The guy didn't have any either, but he drove to a buddies house and borrowed some.  Took him about an hour to get back.   Great guy.   Needless to say, I just drove home.

It's been a terrific hunting season.     :tung:

I'm so sorry about your opener, Dan-O. That all sucks. I agree with the posters who've said to take up the towing with WSP. It sounds like BS to me, too.

Is that section of road marked as no parking/tow away zone?  If so, that would explain the quick tow without tagging and following the guidelines for roadside "abandoned vehicles."

If not, when you picked-up the rig, the tow company should have given you a form to contest the impound/fees.  I would submit that within the time lines it says to contest it.
