Lick Creek youth cow elk hunt
« on: October 22, 2017, 07:43:29 AM »
I've hunted this unit for several years, mostly from the Mountain Road, between the Forest boundary and Devils Tailbone. So I have a pretty good idea of where to start looking. I was up earlier this week to set up camp and to do some pre season scouting.

I did not see any elk, or much sign in my usual spots, so I thought I would reach out to see if anyone could point me in a different direction. My 15 yo son has hunted up here with me a few years, but the elusive spike has so far evaded us. I'm really hoping this cow tag will be the first of many successful elk hunts. I want him to catch the fever, and I think some success at an early age will help. He is currently playing football so we will not be able to make it down to do any more scouting before the season starts.

@Todd_ID  may be able to help.

I recall watching elk cross the 40 almost every day down south of Grouse Flat campground.

Gavin punched his tag at 7:20 opening morning. We just happened to be in the right spot at the right time. 80 yards, one shot with the 7-08.

Congratulations to a young hunter! It is getting more enjoyment of a young hunter shooting game then as shooting game myself. Getting young ones to carry on our sport of shooting and hunting. Plus the time spending with Loved ones makes the hunt!
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.
