Chewuch whitetail permit

I have a Chewuch whitetail permit for Nov 1-20. I will only be able to go Nov 1-5. Anyone have any advise for me?

There's very little public land with good whitetail habitat in that unit.  If you're hunting public land, I don't think you can be choosey.  If you get access to some of the good private land, you'll have a blast.

Not knowing your boundray's,  pretty much everything from Winthrop out to the USFS Eight mile ranch is posted.  There is a piece of private just after the ranch pastures, watch out for it.

Like most Whitetail,  they know how to read signs and know where they are safe!! :chuckle: :chuckle:

Any pics of whitetail bucks from this unit? Alive or dead, public or private land.

Here's a meat buck I shot in that unit about 6 years ago (I haven't took a whitey there since).  Found him in a creek bottom on public land.  Not a trophy, but very tasty.  A .348 to the neck planted him quickly.

All of these bucks spent at least part of their time on public ground that can be accessed off of the East Chewuch road. also you'll find whitetails between the 8 mile ranch up to ortell creek rd along 8 mile creek.

Don't overlook the stuff in the river bottom between Rendevous and Goat Creek Rd. Theres a fair amount of public land in there, and those whitetail will get up on the hillside on the east side of the highway often as well. Learn the property boundaries and get after it.

It's not your fault. Unfortunately Photobucket has made it so you have to pay to be able to share the photos you host on their site.

Get the onx subscription-- put the app on your phone--- But before you go save the map areas you plan to hunt ---then when you are over there, go off line and put your phone on Airplane Mode. Saves batteries and offline makes it quick on the map. Bottom right corner there is a track button, turn that on when you are hunting, then if you are on a public private line and you shoot a deer, you will know right where you are. Really a slick system-- works good on the wet side too with the track in the thick stuff---

I wish I could see photobucket pictures...

Here you go.

Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-fixer/ogipgokcopooepeipngiikdkpmcpkaon
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-fixer/

From jlevers on adventure riders web site.

Hey guys,

I wrote a Google Chrome browser extension that, once installed, will make all broken Photobucket images on any webpage visible again. To install it, if you're using Google Chrome, just go to this link, click Add to Chrome, and you're good to go! From then on, any page you visit with broken Photobucket images will show up as they did before Photobucket nuked them. You don't click on anything, or do anything else, to get the pictures to be fixed. It happens automatically. They will not be fixed for anyone else -- they will just show up as fixed for people using the browser extension.

In case anyone wants to look at the code behind the extension, you can look at it here: https://github.com/TheAtomicGoose/pbfix

Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps!

Well unfortunately I had an last minute emergency at work, and had to cancel my hunt ( I'm a diesel mechanic and had a machine blow an engine) Hoping to sneak over for a couple days before the season ends but that's really iffy. Keep me posted on how you do rem/sav300

Will Do! heading out friday after work. Put out a trail cam opening weekend of mod season in the river bottom. checking that friday night and putting together a game plan for saturday. If i get some good trail cam pics i will put those up too. Hope you can make it over. even for a day, the tag is "any white-tail deer" so you might be able to find a doe and fill the freezer.

Hopefully my next post is a handfull of white-tail something! haha

I just herd a shot behind my house at the bottom of Cub Creek, sounds like it cam from the small wildlife area off of the East Chewuch. Hopefully someone on the late Whitetail hunt just notched their tag. Especially with  all the big cat tracks I am seeing along the creek.

Never made it over. I hunted late blacktail on the west side with kids instead. My youngest son was able to get a nice little forked horn.
