2 for 3 success
« on: October 15, 2007, 06:24:53 PM »
Well it was another great deer opener for our 3 person group.  We saw a total of 17 bucks in 2 days, mostly all legal, but hard to get to.  We may have saw the same ones on sunday that we saw saturday...hard to tell but we counted 17 bucks.

My one hunting partner connected on a nice 3 point opening morning.  My dad spotted a couple shooters but were just out of range for him at 520 yards.  I spotted two bucks about 700 yards away and decided to go after them.  I got up to the top of the ridge and figured if they were still in the chute where I saw them then they would be right below me.  Just then I saw their backs.  I ducked down, took my pack off and crept closer.  I kicked a couple shale rocks and the one buck spotted me.  He was a big tall 4 point...and of course figuring he was going to bolt any second I took a quick 130 yard shot straight downhill and missed.  Oh well.  Didn't see anything after that until the evening when I jumped another buck...couldn't get a shot off.

Sunday morning I went back to where I was saturday.  My dad was across the basin and shot at a big 4 point but never hit him, he was 420 yards, no blood or hair found. 20 minutes after that I was glassing the same area where I missed the day before and saw another buck over there...was a little reluctant to go back so held off on him.  Then 5 minutes later I look below the rock I was sitting on and out comes this buck.  I looked at it really quick, saw a two point on one side and a big spike on the other side, looked again and saw two eyeguards so figured since it was my last day and I wanted some jerky meat I dropped him with one shot.

My dad and friend are still at camp, they have the week off so will stay until my dad gets one.  Very little pressure and even with all the shooting the deer keep coming out from everywhere.  Fun time, to bad we can't do it more than once a year in the same state.  Here are some pictures.
