Who had a cam stolen this year?
« on: October 27, 2017, 12:51:19 PM »
Had a camera stolen in an area in the 356 where I've never seen another person. Hopefully the muzzleloader hunter likes my bushnell camera. I've pulled all but one camera for the modern season and will be putting them back out after the season to catch the elk migration. Hopefully my stealth cam doesn't get found.

Who else had one taken this year?

I had one of my Browning cams stolen a week or so ago. Still kinda hard to believe someone found it since I haven't seen anyone in this area. Checked my other cams in the area and got a couple different people on cam.

:hello: yup. Had mine locked up and had a 1/2" cable through it also. They ended up breaking the camera apart (pieces were left behind) and left the cable still around the tree.

Last year had a couple stolen, even with cable locks through them. They break the plastic mold on the back of the camera. I've started packing a couple of screw-in tree stand steps, and pick a tree without branches or knots on the bottom few feet so that they can't reach the camera. I figure if the person is enough of a @sshole, they'll still shoot the camera, but at least it makes it a bit harder to just steal and gets it out of the immediate line of sight of people.

Wow with all the stuff stolen you would think some company could come up with a small economical tracking device that gives real time locations.

Sorry nothing stolen ,no thread jack intended. :peep:

Fact is that Bears are for some reason very attracted to trail cams, and a good number of cams are stolen by bears. look around the cams may just be close by.
That's my one shot.

I had 2 of my cams stolen in the Bethel Unit, they were there in August and gone last Friday. Pretty sure I know who did it, I have the guy on the cam a couple of times before it was taken. Not many guys would be packing a hacksaw with them to cut it free if they didn't know where the camera was located.

I just got back from my Oregon elk hunt and had 3 cameras up for two months. One was moved and messed with, pointing 180° away from the trail I had it pointed down and the other one which I was really excited for to see what it would have produced for pictures was stolen😡! I just don't know why people have to mess with other people's stuff!

Mine are anywhere from .2 to 8 miles off of the nearest road. Never ever have had anyone on camera that I didn't know. This one that got stolen was 3 miles off of the nearest road or trail.

Is it a high traffic forest? or open country like on the east side. You can see for quite a distance on the eastside. I think they would stand out.
I have a hard time believing that people would find one up in My spot? but I guess You never know. So if I buy one I will get a cheap one so it won't hurt so bad.

Where about was your camera?  Just GMU......Did you get your card back a couple days later?

My buddy came back to camp this year with my SD card just to find out he pulled someone elses.  We returned it the next day and pulled the right card which was one finger ridge over.   :chuckle: :chuckle:

Between me and my buddy we had 6 cameras out, 1 was stolen, 1 had the batteries removed, 2 had the cards taken, 2 left alone.  Not very good this year.  I have only had a card removed one time before.  Makes me the maddest that it is hunters taking them.  I could care less if someone wants to take a look at the pics on the card, but at least get it set back up again.  But stealing it?!  :nono: :mgun:

Had a camera stolen in an area in the 356 where I've never seen another person. Hopefully the muzzleloader hunter likes my bushnell camera. I've pulled all but one camera for the modern season and will be putting them back out after the season to catch the elk migration. Hopefully my stealth cam doesn't get found.

Who else had one taken this year?
We had one taken in 356 this year too.  The other 5 that were locked up did not wander off.  We have a pretty good idea who took it... they must have thought they own the land more.

The one we lost was 7 miles in by foot and in timber.  The camera was taken sometime between Labor Day and the archery elk opener.  Sucks to think other "bowhunters" will steal from you.

Oh man. That sucks.

I sure hope my cam that's out didn't get jacked. Haven't had time to get it. Going to try Thursday. Tomorrow I have a date with some of the goats in the unit and don't have enough daylight to cover another 7 miles on top of the 20 miles I plan on covering tomorrow.

The cams that are being stolen miles in. Are you using cables or just nylon strap to secure them to tree? Could be a bear taking them off the tree or moving them around. Idk just saying them animals can move or even chew the strap. I have a feeling most cams in backcountry are taken by animals. Just my  :twocents: I’ve never had a person on cam. But I’ve had cams moved by bears and elk. If it wasn’t for the cable I’m sure it be in bottom of a canyon.

I had one stolen in 627, definitely another hunter. The random brush pickers don't give a crap when they see them. I would have not been so upset if they just took the chip those are cheap to replace. I hope you enjoy the pics of me and my son testing it.  :bash:

One of the cameras I had stolen in the 360 unit had been cut free with a saw. You could see the saw marks left on the secure devise. This camera and the other one that was a 1/4 mile away were 2 miles from the road. The guy we think took them hunted the area everyday last year, this year on opening day I saw him and said the cams were gone. His reaction was "Oh they were here this Fall". Really how would he know that, and why haven't we seen him on the mountain since opening day. I hate thieves and Liers  :bash:

Lost one of two on my private land in April, set up within 50 feet of each other.   (Love them trespassers)  Oh, and to the bear that took off with my cam last winter - there's a reward of 5 lbs of bacon for its return - no questions asked.

I had one stolen on IEP land in elk. We had it set up and labeled for a disabled hunter he had coming for deer season. The feeder was labeled to please respect the set up for disabled hunters. It had a python cable lock on it and they hacked off with a hatchet they also  took the ground blind!

Whereabouts in 627...pm me if you want. .maybe I can help with the who done it...also don't underestimate brush pickers. They pick brush for like $2-$3 bucks an hour. It's not below them to find a way to make quick cash.

I had one stolen on IEP land in elk. We had it set up and labeled for a disabled hunter he had coming for deer season. The feeder was labeled to please respect the set up for disabled hunters. It had a python cable lock on it and they hacked off with a hatchet they also  took the ground blind!
Sorry that really sucks.
Thought all the lowlife were on the west side........ :yike:

Maybe this trail cam is what you guys need to be installing in those "problem areas."

I put my cameras in metal boxes, python locks and use climbing sticks to get them up high.  I also post a little note on  the outside of the metal box that stealing them is pointless because they have a security code.  So far in 7 years I have not had one stolen....yet!!  (knocks on wood)

Well I guess i get to join the club. Had a brand new camera stolen in darrington. Not a easy find either. My partner and i had 2 in this new area ,Mine gone and they found his and messed up the lock so bad he had to beat it off with a rock to get the camera out. I have half my cameras in boxes but got lazy and figured no one would find it.Plus i run about 15 cameras so buying a box for every one is expensive. Back to all in boxes i guess.

A constant saying in all of these stolen cams threads is....."I had my cam where no one goes"
Is there really anywhere that nobody doesn't go anymore?  :twocents:
