Bear down.
« on: October 29, 2017, 01:57:52 PM »
After a very long fall of no success, smoky days, fires blowing out areas I scouted, snowed out one weekend, and lots of the normal things just getting in the way, this weekend happened. Had seen this bear multiple times in this area but hadn't got a shot on him. Got in to the area 2 miles in, and got up on a high point that overlooks a great mile of small lakes, berry fields and general meadows. Sat from sunrise to 1 pm and didn't see a thing. Blew on the predator call for 30 minutes and began getting bored. Moved to the other side of my high point and glassed some surrounding mountains. Saw nothing and moved back to my original position. About to sit back down and noticed a new stump, and upon closer investigation it was my bear moving thru munching on berries. I quickly got to the top of my high point, got prone on my pack,  read yds at 315, read wind at 2 mph, dialed my adjustments,  settled the crosshairs, waited for the front leg to move forward and squeezed. He jumped, spun and fell 40 feet further and bellowed immediately.  Double lung and incinerated the heart. Dead on contact. This bear had a throat full of berries, *censored* berries dying and bled purple. Can't wait to eat him. A heavy pack out after doing all work solo and a return trip in this morning to retrieve my gear. Words can't describe the fulfilment of the past 2 days. Tired today and have only more work to do. A beer and seahawks first though

"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

And thank you everybody, I was feeling pretty discouraged 2 weeks ago. For some reason I woke up yesterday morning knowing for sure that it was gonna happen. Here's a pic of my view. He walked into the opening left of the trees 2 hours after I took this pic. In retro spec I probably had time to set up phone scope on spotter and capture the whole thing but once I had a look at him it was go time and nothing else entered my mind
