Cabelas does an ok job mounting scopes, but they don't lap and are often rushed.  You could also reload for additional accuracy, but if you are getting 6 MOA that is a pretty big void to close.

What's your budget?  You could get everything from a Savage Axis for $150 on sale on up.  I have a Remmy 700 stainless and love it.  Most manufacturers are putting out excellent rifles these days, I would get a bunch in my hands and see what feels right.  The action, safety and feel are all different, figure out what feels best for you.

I’m in NO WAY a gunsmith guy, nor do I know much about guns in general; just the ones I use. I’ve had an old 742 for 30 years.  An old guy who owns a gun store told me that these guns are Extremely finicky about cleanliness... he’d taken in one on trade that wouldn’t group. He said he cleaned it over & over again and the groups got better and better, till finally, he started hunting with it for nostalgia’s sake, his brother used one. He said he took a deer the 1st day and he won’t sell it now, it’s too “lucky!”
Clean the heck out of it, and try it again. There’s something weird about the for-end stock, and how tight it is too, but I am not competent to explain it. I’ve killed most of the deer I’ve taken with mine. They have a nice balance. Good luck to you or whoever buys it!

I bet your issue is copper fouling in the barrel. If you buy some of that foam copper dissolver and spray it in the barrel while the end is plugged let it sit and repeat several times until your cleaning patch comes out totally clean I bet your accuracy issues will be gone.
