The article actually never mentions anything about Hunter Safety Education and actually claims that "machine guns are legal in WI. How do they get away with this crap?

They make the impression with the public and then a month or two later will publish a minor retraction someplace nobody will see.  More than likely, it was a joint effort with an anti-hunting organization that fed the information and probably some copy.

Many news outlets simply buy articles from freelancers and perform very minimal verification.
