Awesome buck and awesome photography! Anyone who hunts mule deer has to appreciate that Gladiator! Once again, thanks for taking the time to share! Looking forward to the new calendar!

bone I shot one like that in 1972, a 5 by 5 with an outside spread of  only 19 inches, all palmated and bases like a pop can. It was in a little better shape than your guy(weighed in at 281 field dressed), the game fellas said he was about 12 to 13 years old, I think your guy has led a way more "interesting" life than mine did, the stories he could tell are etched on his face and shown on his body ....that is a buck that doesn't ask for respect, he has earned it. bone, a great photo to me tells a story, you certainly captured a "great story" with your photo, thank you......bigmacc

I love seeing geriatric wildlife of all species.  Thanks for sharing.  Several years ago, on a sunny early spring day, I was lucky enough to spot an ancient coyote laying in the sun.  Made me realize I'd never seen an old song dog like that one - lots of white, gray muzzle up to his eyes.  When he finally saw me, it was obvious he was moving stiffly, just like an old lab.  Wild animals that have grown visibly old are a rare treat.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I love this pic....

It's like looking at a WWII veteran.  Seeing them in their current condition yet knowing what they did.

He's survived predators, bad winters, droughts, stumbling hunters, disease, probably some dicey road crossings during the rut and who knows what else. He's spread some seriously superior genes throughout his long life and fought like a prize fighter every single year to do so (good times).  I'm of the opinion that this old gentleman/warrior dies on his terms, in his bed, reminiscing about how he defied the odds and did HIS thing for so many years.

Well said!!

Knowing they still might be able to kick your ass.
