Hunt very public land. I've rattled quket, heavy everywhere and every way...  In a boat, with a goat... Never had a response. Every late WA season.
Then this is the year!

I don't know if it's normal or not but I saw 2 bucks today with huge swollen necks and running around in the middle of the day? Rut starting up a bit early?

My son and I leave for Idaho this Thursday. I just watched your Seminar video again and looking forward to trying some of your tactics. I've rattled for years from a tree stand with no luck so I'm hoping to rattle in a buck for my 11 yr old from the ground. Thanks for posting up the video 3nails!!!

I think you have got your trip timed real well! Keep the rattling toned down for the first few days.

Ah, the 2017 rattling thread.  Nothing makes me happier.

I will be out this weekend for the evening hunts (Idaho), starting each setup with a grunt set to catch any nearby bucks, then gentle rattling after a wait period.  3nails, any thoughts on that?  Congrats again on your massive blacktail- I hope you can follow him up with a masher whitetail!

For rattling and grunting I actually prefer the pre-rut.  The next few days should be outstanding!!!

I also watched 3nails video and I'm getting anxious to give it a try. Leaving for Montana Saturday. Best of luck to everyone.

I spotted a few bucks in a brushy draw yesterday about 200yards away and I watched them for awhile to make sure they didn't know I was there then I rattled and grunted. I could see they heard me and one of them just walked away and the other two just went back to eating. Is it just too early?

Hey WA hunter 14-

3nails may want to weigh in on this, but I will share what I have observed.  There is a big difference between the first week of November and the second and (especially!) third week.  When the behavior switches, you will notice it!  What has worked for me in the past is to just be out there, try rattling and grunting, and keep it up until "the switch comes on".

Best of luck to you!!!

Alright I'll keep after it, thanks!   Is there a place to watch 3nails videos? YouTube?

Sounds like very good plan. Just make sure to wait at least 5 silent/still minutes before starting to rattle after grunting.

About exactly as elkboy said. They'll slip in for a peak now, come charging in for a fight in  7-10 days from now.
