No more deer or elk tags in Idaho
« on: November 10, 2017, 01:24:05 AM »
FYI, I drove from the coast to Lewiston and went in to get my whitetail tag only to be told they were sold out. Checked around and called the Dept of Game to be sure and was told it was the first time in over a decade all non res tags were sold out. So I texted some friends that were coming over tomorrow to let them know not to waste their time.

Bummer. I'd checked online last week and there were still tags but I was afraid they wouldn't arrive before I wanted to leave so I decided to get my tag when I got here. My bad. So I'm spotting for some friends who live here.

That's a bummer.Hopefully you'll have a good time with your friends.
I saw that it was getting down there last week so ordered mine and got them 2 days ago.We usually do the same thing, drive to lewiston and pick them up.

first time they've sold out in 10 years. im just glad they keep it capped. id love to see them lower the cap for non rez tags especially with the winter we had last year. its been the same quota for 25 years. doubt that will happen with the revenue flow but at least there not increasing them.

Deer tags sold out last year as well. I'd bet a lot of them went out as second tags.
Shut up and Hunt!

they defiantly go as a second tag to residents. myself included depending on the year. this year 1 of each is plenty for me, like I said tuff winter. quota should be lowered for a few years then reassessed when the herd recovers.

It would be interesting to see how many non-residents hunt Idaho. Talking with locals off of highway 12, it sounds like the area is flooded with Washington Residents every hunting season. I'm glad I'll have residency next year.

I remember when the nr elk tags sold out in two weeks...

I think the web is at fault for the increase in popularity for the deer tags..but it is what it is...I talked to a local last week that was pissed at idfg for all the nr tags they offer...money grab was his term.

Or less :chuckle: Combo tags would sell out in less than 10 days.

U must live there in the winter months? Seems like you work and play in Yakima county allot of the summer...

But people on other threads are saying the number of nonresident hunters in Idaho is down.
LOL.

:yeah: I bought two elk tags this year and I am glad I did! I have often bought 2 deer tags and I think both resident but a lot of nr buy two deer tags I just stuck with one deer this year and think the winter hit them a lot harder than the elk> Whitetail population in north Idaho still seems really good though

They shouldn’t give out two tags for deer or elk in my opinion.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
